This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB 14907-2002 "Steel Structure Fire Retardant Coatings".

Steel structure fireproof coating
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and model, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and signs of steel structure fireproof coatings.
Packaging, transportation and storage.
This standard is applicable to all kinds of steel structure fireproof coatings used on the surface of steel structures.

3 Terms and definitions

Foreword
The content of Chapter 5 and Chapter 7 of this standard is compellent and the other
content is recommended.
This standard is an amendment of GB 14907-1994 ((Universal technical conditions of
fire resistive coating for steel structure )) . In the content, the performance requirement and
test methods in the original standard which were proved reasonable and feasible by practice
were kept and the performance requirement and test methods for ultra-thin fire resistive
coating for steel structure and outdoor fire resistive coating for steel structure were added in.
In Annex A, the computation procedure of load application for coated steel beam is
introduced and the examples of load application calculation for I40b ordinary hot rolling I
beam are listed. In Annex B, the test methods and evaluation for the corrosiveness of coating
against steel products are introduced.
The Annex A of this standard is a standard annex.
The Annex B of this standard is a suggestive annex.
This standard shall be a substitute of GB 14907-1994 since its execution date.
This standard was advanced by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic
of China.
This standard is presided by the Subcommittee of Fireproof Material under the National
Committee of Fire Protection Standardization Technology.
Sichuan Fire Protection Science Institute of the Ministry of Public Security took charge
of drafting work of this standard.

1. Scope
111e content such as definition and classification, technical requirement, test method,
inspection rules and standard of integrated criterion of fire resistive coating for steel structure
as well as package, symbol, label, storage and transportation and product description, etc,
have been stipulated in this standard.
This standard is applicable for all classes of fire resistive coating for steel structure
inside and outside buildings (structures).

A sort of coating which, when coated on the surface of building and structure, forms a
protective layer of fire-resistance and heat-insulation, so as to increase the fire-resisting limit
of steel structure.
4. Classification and naming
4.1 Product classification
4.1.1 According to application occasions, the fire resistive coating for steel stmcture may be
divided into.
a) Indoor fire resistive coating for steel structure. used on surface of steel structure
inside buildings or of concealed work;
b) Outdoor fire resistive coating for steel structure. used on surface of steel structure
outside buildings or of open air work;
4.1.2 According to application thickness, the fire resistive coating for steel structure may be
divided into.
a) Ultra-thin fire resistive coating for steel structure. with coating thickness not larger
than 3mm;
b) 1·hin fire resistive coating for steel structure. with coating thickness larger than 3mm
and not larger than 7mm;
c) Thick fire resistive coating for steel structure.. \7-rith coating thickness larger than
7mm and not larger than 45mm.
4.2 Product naming
Abbreviation of Chinese phonetic alphabet shall serve as code name. N and W shall
represent indoor and outdoor separately and CB, B and H shall separately represent 3 types of
thickness. ultra-thin, thin and thick. The coincidence relationship betvvecn title of each type

5. Technical requirement
5. 1 General requirement
5.1.1 The raw material used to make fire resistive coating shall not contain asbestos and
formaldehyde and benzene like solvent is not proper to be applied in the raw material.

Note. fire endurance of 15 min (figure confirmed by 136b, l40b) for exposed steel beam shall be taken as basis data for fire
endurance with coating thickness of Omm us shown in the Table. For technical requirement of durability items (insolation
resistance, moist heat resistance, freeze thawing circulation resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, salt mist corrosion
resistance), in addition lo stipulations listed in the table, when the attached requirement on fire resisting property has also been met,
may the performance against the corresponding item be deemed as qualified. Test proceeded against either of acid resistance and
alkali resistance shall be sufficient.

6. Test method
6. l Sampling
Unless otherwise regulated, the stipulations in GB 3186 shall be observed for sampling,
inspection and taking of samples necessary for test.
6.2 Test conditions
Preparation and maintenance of coating shall be proceeded under conditions of
environment temperature 5 - 35 ·c and relative humidity 50% - 80%; Unless otherwise
regulated, it should be proper to make the test of physical chemical properties under same
conditions.
6.3 Preparations for physical chemical property specimen
Unless otherwise regulated, the preparation for physical chemical property specimen for
the coating shall be proceeded according to stipulations in Article 6.3.1, 6.3.2 and 6.33. The
reinforcement measures for the coating shall be excluded from manufacture of test specimen.
6.3.l Size and quantity of basis material oftest specimen
For size and quantity of basis material oftest specimen, refer to Table 3
the test-bed with coated side upwards for drying maintenance. With exception of specimens
testing surface drying time and crack resistance in initial stage of drying, the maintenance
period regulated for other specimens shall be. not shorter than 7d for CB type, not shorter
than 1 Od for B type and not shorter than 28d for H type, except those products that are with
special maintenance regulations. Experiment shall be proceeded after the maintenance
period is expired.
6.3.4 Pren·eatment oftest specimen
When maintenance period for test specimens as described in 6.4.8, 6.4.11, 6.4.12, 6.4.13,
6.4.14 and 6.4.15 is expired, the perimeter of the specimen shall be blinded in with melting
liquid of paraffin and rosin in proportion of 1. 1 (The width of sealed edge shall not be less
than 5mm). Experiment shall be proceeded after the maintenance period is expired.
6.4 Physical and chemical properties
6.4.l State when contained in a container
Agitate the sample in the container with an agitator or mix the polycomponent coating in
regulated proportion, and then observe whether the coating is even and whether
agglomeration occurs.
6.4.2 Drying time
The specimen as made according to Article 6.3 shall be disposed in a way of finger
touching as regulated in GB/T 1728-1979.
6.4.3 Appearance and color
When drying maintenance period is expired, the specimen as made according to Article
6.3 shall be compared with the sample provided by manufacturer or the sample as regulated in
the agreement between the manufacturer and user and no obvious difference shall occur with
color, size of granule and extent of distribution equality.
6.4.4 Crack resistance in initial stage of drying
The specimen as made according to Article 6.3 shall be tested according to article 5.5 in
GBff 9779 - 1988. Visual inspection shall be made for cracks and proper tools shall be
applied to measure crack ~idth. It is required that both specimens shall meet the requirement.
6.4.5 Strength of bond
The adhesive agent with high bonding force (such as solvent type epoxy resin, etc.) shall
be brushed and coated evenly in a scope of about...
