This document applies to wood-based panels and its products, including plain wood- based panels, decorated wood-based panels, wooden floors, wooden wall panels, wooden doors and wood-based panel products. 2 Normative references The following documents are referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of their content constitutes requirements of this document. For dated references, only the dated version applies to this document; for undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document. GB/T 11414-2007, Laboratory glassware - Bottles GB/T 15723-1995, Laboratory glassware - Desiccator 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 odor The smell given off by a substance. 4 Test apparatuses 4.1 Wide-mouth glass bottle It shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 11414-2007, with a volume of 2 500 mL, a sealed lid that is easy to open and close, and no odor at the temperatures of (20±2) °C 4.3 Oven Temperature can be maintained at (65±2) °C. 4.4 Constant temperature and humidity chamber Temperature ranges within 10 °C ~ 80 °C, with an accuracy ±2 °C; relative humidity ranges within 10% ~ 95%, with an accuracy of ±5%. 5 Testing room environment The testing room shall be fully ventilated, and the temperature shall be controlled at (20±2) °C. During testing, the indoor environment of the testing room shall be kept quiet, without interference and without odor. 6 Evaluator 6.1 Selection of evaluators 6.1.1 The evaluators shall have no olfactory defects, no habits such as smoking, using heavily scented cosmetics, or chewing gum, etc. that affect the olfactory evaluation ability, and shall have relatively keen sense organs and identification abilities. Before starting the evaluation, identification tests shall be conducted to select individuals with better sensory sensitivity. 6.1.2 Prepare 4 samples of isoamyl acetate aqueous solution with the same volume and different concentrations (5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg). 6.1.3 Provide 4 samples of isoamyl acetate aqueous solution to candidate evaluators in random order, and require the candidate evaluators to sort the solution samples in the order of increasing concentration. Samples shall be provided to all candidate evaluators in the same order to ensure the comparability of the ranking results from the candidate evaluators and avoid the impact caused by the different order of supply. 6.1.4 Candidate evaluators who can correctly arrange 4 samples of isoamyl acetate aqueous solution in the order of increasing concentration can be selected as evaluators for the odor of wood-based panels and its products. Candidate evaluators who arrange one or more of the four samples of isoamyl acetate aqueous solution in the wrong concentration order will be considered unsuitable as evaluators for the odor of wood- based panels and their products. 6.2 Requirements of evaluators 6.2.1 The evaluation team shall consist of an odd number of 3 or more members. 6.2.2 On the day of the test, odor evaluators shall not carry or use odorous spices, cosmetics or skin care products that may affect the olfactory evaluation ability, and shall not eat foods with pungent odors. Odor evaluators who are suffering from colds or olfactory organ discomfort shall not participate in the measurement on that day. 7 Test piece preparation 7.1 Plain wood-based panels For plywood, particleboard, fiberboard, block board, glued-laminated timber and other plain wood-based panels, an edge of (20±0.5) mm shall be removed, and then the test piece shall be prepared from any part. The specification of the test piece is (25±0.5) mm × (25 ±0.5) mm × panel thickness, and the total weight of the test piece is (200±10) g. 7.2 Decorated wood-based panels For decorated wood-based panels, an edge of (20±0.5) mm shall be removed, and then the test piece shall be prepared from any part of the panel. The specification of the test piece is (150±0.5) mm × (150±0.5) mm × panel thickness, and the four sides are sealed with odorless aluminum foil. When the panel thickness is less than or equal to 30 mm, the number of test pieces is 10; when the panel thickness is greater than 30 mm, the number of test pieces is 8. 7.3 Wooden floors For wooden floors, the test piece shall be prepared after removing the tongue and groove. The specification of the test piece is (150±0.5) mm × (150±0.5) mm × floor thickness, and the four sides are sealed with odorless aluminum foil. If the wooden floor sample is not wide enough, it can be spliced. The number of test pieces is 10. 7.4 Wooden wall panels For wooden wall panels containing tongues and grooves, the test piece shall be prepared after removing the tongues and grooves. For wooden wall panels without tongues and grooves, an edge of (20±0.5) mm shall be removed and then the test piece shall be prepared from any part of the wooden wall panel. The specification of the test piece is (150±0.5) mm × (150±0.5) mm × wall panel thickness, and the four sides are sealed with odorless aluminum foil. If the wooden wall panel sample is not wide enough, it can be spliced. The number of test pieces is 10. 7.5 Wooden doors Prepare test pieces from the four corners and edges of the wooden door. The specification of the test piece is (150±0.5) mm × (150±0.5) mm × door thickness, the sawn edges are sealed with odorless aluminum foil. It shall be ensured that at least 4 test pieces are taken from the four corners, and the remaining test pieces can be taken from the edges (retaining the door edges). The number of test pieces is 8. 7.6 Wood-based panel products Prepare a test piece from the edge-sealed corner of the wood-based panel product. The specification of the test piece is (150±0.5) mm × (150±0.5) mm × panel thickness. If the sample size is not enough, multiple samples can be sawed and cut to form one test piece. Seal the sawn edges with odorless aluminum foil. When the panel thickness is less than or equal to 30 mm, the number of test pieces is 10; when the panel thickness is greater than 30 mm, the number of test pieces is 8. 8 Test methods 8.1 Pretreatment of test pieces Before the test, place the test pieces in an odorless environment with a temperature of (20±2) °C and a relative humidity of (65±5) %, and adjust for 72 h ± 5 min. 8.2 Test steps 8.2.1 Plain wood-based panels 1) The wide-mouth glass bottle for testing and its lid shall be cleaned and dried before testing to ensure that the wide-mouth glass bottle and its lid are clean and odorless. 2) Put all the test pieces into the wide-mouth glass bottle; cover the lid; put it in an oven at (65±2) °C or a constant temperature and humidity chamber; heat for 2 h ± 5 min; take out the wide-mouth glass bottle containing the test pieces and place it in an environment of (20±2) °C to cool for 1 h ± 5 min. 3) After cooling, complete the odor evaluation test within 30 minutes. During the evaluation, the odor evaluator shall put the nose close to the edge of the wide-mouth glass bottle (at a vertical distance of 20 ~ 30 mm), remove the lid, inhale the gas in the bottle, and record the odor grade in accordance with Chapter 9 of this document. During each test, the lid shall be removed from the test bottle for no more than 5 seconds, and the lid shall be covered immediately after the test. 4) The test interval between each evaluator shall be no less than 2 minutes. The gas sample in each test bottle can be tested by more than 3 but less than 5 odor evaluators. Before the test, the odor evaluator can slightly shake the wide-mouth glass bottle to promote the dispersion of the gas in the bottle. 5) When there is a gap of two or more grades in the evaluation results of the members of the evaluation team, resampling shall be conducted for odor evaluation. 6) The grade of which more people select shall be the final odor grade of the sample. ......
