Sampling method for lime
1 Scope
This document specifies the terms and definitions, sampling tools, sampling
sites and locations, total sampling size, sampling procedures, sample
preparation, packaging and storage, sampling sheets, of lime sampling.
This document is applicable to the inspection sampling of the production and
use of quicklime, quicklime powder, slaked lime powder.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated documents, only the versions
with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated
documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is applicable
to this standard.
JC/T 619 Terms for lime
3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions as defined in JC/T 619, as well as the following terms
and definitions, apply to this document.
3.1
Manual sampling
Collection of lime samples by the use of manual sampling tools.
3.2
Automatic sampling
Collection of lime samples by the use of an autosampler.
3.3
Unit sample
A lime sample, which is taken from a point or part of each inspection lot,
according to the specified amount.
out in rainwater OR in a heavily polluted environment.
5.2 The sampling of lime production inspection should be at the following
locations:
a) Lime kiln's outlet;
b) Lime conveyor belt;
c) Lime storage or storage yard;
d) The discharge port of the conveying pipeline;
e) Feeding port of lime, before exit-factory, into the transportation equipment,
bagged, bulk trucks, etc.
5.3 Sampling for lime use inspection should be at the following locations:
a) Feeding port of lime, before exit-factory, into the transportation equipment,
bagged, bulk trucks, etc.;
b) Material inlet and outlet of bulk truck, on the lime transportation equipment
handed over by the user;
c) Lime warehouse or storage yard.
6 Total sampling
The total amount of quicklime, which is sampled for each inspected lime
inspection lot, shall not be less than 24 kg; the total amount of quicklime powder
and slaked lime powder sampled shall not be less than 5 kg.
7 Sampling steps
7.1 Sampling from storage yards, warehouses, vehicles (ships)
Use ordinary pointed steel shovel or I-type manual sampling shovel for
sampling. Randomly select 12 sampling points, from different parts of each
inspection lot. The sampling points shall be evenly or cyclically distributed on
the diagonal or quarter line of the storage yard, warehouse, vehicle (ship);
meanwhile it shall take samples from 100 mm below the surface or 100 mm
above the bottom layer; each unit sample is not less than 2 kg. If there is a large
block, which has a maximum size greater than 100 mm, in the sampling point,
it shall be crushed. Tale some of the broken blocks, that can represent the mass
of the block; break it; pass it through a 20 mm test sieve, to obtain the unit
sample. The single sample obtained shall be immediately put into a clean, dry,
moisture-proof airtight container or sealed bag.
7.2 Sampling at the inlet and outlet of conveyor belts, lime silos, bulk
trucks
For lumpy lime, use I-type manual sampling shovel or ordinary pointed steel
shovel to take sample. From the flowing quicklime of each inspection lot, take
12 unit samples at regular intervals; each sample is not less than 2 kg. If there
is a large block, which has the largest size greater than 100 mm, in the sampling
point, it shall be processed in accordance with 7.1.
For powdered lime and slaked lime, use manual sampling tube or type-II
manual sampling shovel to take sample, OR use automatic sampler to take
sample. Take 10 unit samples, at regular intervals, from the flowing quicklime
powder or slaked lime powder, in each inspection lot; each unit sample shall
not be less than 0.5 kg.
The obtained unit sample is immediately put into a clean, dry, moisture-proof
airtight container or airtight bag.
7.3 Sampling at the outlet of the lime kiln
Select the appropriate sampling location, according to the discharge method of
the lime kiln's discharge port AND the lime temperature; proceed according to
7.2.
7.4 Sampling in bags
For bags of lime not more than 100 kg, randomly take 10 bags from each
inspection lot (the bags shall be intact). Use the manual sampling tubes for
sampling. Insert the sampling tube, obliquely from the opening of the bag, to an
appropriate depth, in the bag. Take out a tube of lime. The sampling volume of
each bag of lime shall not be less than 0.5 kg.
For bags of lime not less than 1000 kg, randomly take 6 bags from each
inspection lot (the bags shall be intact:). For the lumpy lime, use the type-II
sampling shovel to take sample, uniformly from two locations along the center
line, according to 7.1. For powder lime, use a manual sampling tube to take
sample, uniformly from two locations along the center line; insert the sampling
tube diagonally into the bag, to an appropriate depth, to take out a tube of core
lime; the mass of each unit sample is not less than 0.5 kg.
The unit sample obtained shall be immediately put into a clean, dry, moisture-
proof airtight container or sealed bag.
8 Sample preparation
8.1 Composite sample
The unit samples, which are obtained from each inspection lot, shall be
uniformly mixed, immediately after unpacking. Use the quartering method to
reduce it. The lumpy quicklime shall be reduced to not less than 9 kg; the
quicklime powder or slaked lime powder shall be reduced to not less than 1 kg.
8.2 Test sample and retained sample
Divide the reduced mixed sample equally, one is the test sample AND the other
is the retained sample.
9 Packaging and storage
9.1 The obtained test sample and retained sample shall be stored immediately
in a clean, dry, moisture-proof container, that does not affect the performance
of lime, AND sealed.
9.2 The samples shall be stored in a dry environment. The sample container
shall have a clear and difficult-to-wipe sealing strip, which is marked with the
product name, serial number, sampling location, sampling person.
10 Sampling sheet
After the sample is obtained, the person in charge of sampling shall fill in the
sampling sheet. The sampling sheet shall include at least the following:
a) Sample number;
b) Lime type;
c) Lot number;
d) Sampling date;
e) Sampling location;
f) The quantity of samples;
g) Sampling person.
