Foreword
This standard is one of the national standards of "Hex Head Bolt" series, which
includes.
- GB/T 27 Hexagon fit shank bolts;
- GB/T 28 Hexagon fit shank bolts with split pin hole on shank;
- GB/T 29.1 Hexagon bolts with slot on head;
- GB/T 29.2 Hexagon bolts with cross recess on head;
- GB/T 31.1 Hexagon bolts with split pin hole on shank;
- GB/T 31.2 Hexagon bolts with split pin on shank - Reduced shank - Product
grade B;
- GB/T 31.3 Hexagon bolts with split pin on shank - Fine pitch thread -
Product grade A and B;
- GB/T 32.1 Hexagon bolts with wire holes on head - Product grade A and B;
- GB/T 32.2 Hexagon bolts with wire holes on head - Reduced shank -

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 5783-2000 “Hexagon head bolts - Full thread”; as
compared with GB/T 5783-2000, the main technical changes are as follows.
- DELETE “if requiring other technical requirements, ... select from GB/T
3098.6 and GB/T 3103.1)” (Chapter 1 of the 2000 version);
- UNIFY the reference thread standard as GB/T 193, GB/T 9145 (Chapter 2);
- SPECIFY only the surface defects of steel products. GB/T 5779.1 (Table
3);
- ADD the steel bolt surface without treatment; DELETE the oxidation
treatment (Table 3);
- ADD the technical requirements of steel bolts non-electrolytically zinc flake
coating in accordance with GB/T 5267.2 (Table 3);
- ADD the technical requirements for the hot dip galvanized layer of steel
bolts in accordance with GB/T 5267.3 (Table 3).
- ADD the technical requirements for passivation treatment of stainless steel
in accordance with GB/T 5267.4 (Table 3);
- ADD the technical requirements for non-ferrous metal bolt electroplating in
accordance with GB/T 5267.1;
- In the marking, it is only allowed to omit. the surface is not treated, replacing
the surface oxidation treatment (5.2).
This standard, through redrafting method, modifies and adopts ISO 4017.2014
“Fastener - Hexagon head screws - Product grade A and B” (English version).
The technical differences between this standard and ISO 4017 and their causes
are as follows.
- DELETE the provisions of ISO 4017 that “if requiring other technical
requirements, ... select from GB/T 3098.6 and GB/T 3103.1)” (Chapter 1),
which does not belong to the contents of this standard;
- In the normative references, USE Chinese standard to replace international
standard (Chapter 2); ADD the references to GB/T 5782 (Chapter 1), GB/T
90.2 (Table 3), GB/T 193 (Table 3), GB/T 9145 (Table 3), GB/T 5267.4
(Table 3) and GB/T 1237 (5.1); DELETE the reference to ISO 724 and ISO
965-1, in order to comply with our basic fastener standards;
- ADD the technical requirements for passivation treatment of stainless steel
(Table 3); EXPAND the product application range;
- ADD the packaging technical requirements (Table 3), in order to comply
with our basic fastener standards;
Hexagon head bolts - Full thread
1 Scope
This standard specifies the type size, technical conditions and marking of full-
thread hexagon head bolts.
This standard applies to the hexagon head bolts of thread specifications M1.6
~ M64 or full thread, the performance level of 5.6, 8.8, 9.8, 10.9, A2-70, A4-70,
A2-50, A4-50, CU2, CU3 and AL4 level, and product grade A and B. Grade A
applies to d = 1.6 mm ~ 24 mm and l ≤ 10d or l ≤ 150 mm (whichever is smaller);
AND grade B applies to d > 24 mm or l > 10d or l > 150 mm (whichever is
smaller).
Note. Unless otherwise made in full thread AND the maximum nominal length
of the preferred length specification is 200 mm, this product is same as that of
GB/T 5782.
