This standard was first released in October 1985, first revised in 1996, AND
this is the second revision.
Natural gypsum
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and level,
requirements, test methods, inspection rules, markings, packaging, transport
and storage of natural gypsum products.
This standard applies to natural gypsum mineral products output in nature.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

of minerals in bulk - Manual method of sample preparation
GB/T 5484 Methods for chemical analysis of gypsum
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
3.1
Grade
It refers to the content of the useful components or useful minerals per unit
volume or unit mass of ore.
3.2
Free water (H2O-)
It refers to the moisture absorbed by the material from air.
3.3
Combined water (H2O+)
It refers to, in crystalline material, the certain amount of water molecules
which are formed through combination with ions or molecules through the
chemical bonding force.
3.4
Gypsum
It refers to the material which is mainly existed in the form of calcium sulfate
dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O).
3.5
Anhydrite
It refers to the material which is mainly existed in the form of anhydrous
calcium sulphate (CaSO4), wherein the ratio of the mass fraction of
anhydrous calcium sulphate (CaSO4) to the sum of the mass fraction of
calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O) and anhydrous calcium
sulphate (CaSO4) is not less than 80%.
3.6
Mixed gypsum
It refers to the material which is mainly existed in the form of calcium sulfate
dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O) and anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4), wherein
the ratio of the mass fraction of the anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4) to
the sum of the mass fraction of the calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O)
and anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4) is less than 80%.
4 Classification and level
4.1 Classification
Natural gypsum products can be divided into three categories based on the
mineral composition. gypsum (code G), anhydrite (code A), and mixed gypsum
(code M).
4.2 Level
Each type of natural gypsum is divided into five levels based on the grade.
special level, level 1, level 2, level 3, and level 4.
4.3 Specifications
Product block size is not greater than 400 mm. If there are special
requirements, they shall be as negotiated between the supplier and the
purchaser.
5 Requirements
5.1 Natural gypsum products free water content (mass fraction) is not more
than 4%.
5.2 The grade of each natural gypsum product shall meet the requirements of
Table 1.
Table 1
Level Grade (mass fraction) / % Gypsum (G) Anhydrite (A) Mixed gypsum (M)
Special level ≥ 95 - ≥ 95
Level 1 ≥ 85
Level 2 ≥ 75
Level 3 ≥ 65
Level 4 ≥ 55
6 Test methods
6.1 Determination of free water
Determination of free water is in accordance with GB/T 5484.
6.2 Grade determination
6.2.1 Determination of combined water is in accordance with GB/T 5484.
6.2.2 Determination of sulfur trioxide is in accordance with GB/T 5484.
6.2.3 Grade calculation.
Where.
G1 - Grade of category G products, %;
G2 - Grade of category A and M products, %;
X1 - Mass fraction of CaSO4, %;
W - Mass fraction of combined water, %;
S - Mass fraction of sulfur trioxide, %.
7 Testing rules
7.1 Batching principles
Acceptance and supply of natural gypsum products are made by batch. The
300 t of natural gypsum of same category and same level which is supplied
together is considered as one batch, AND those less than 300 t is also
considered as one batch.
7.2 Sampling methods and sample preparation
7.2.1 USE the grid method. It shall be in accordance with the ore mass, block
uniformity, and ore pile volume to determine the grid spacing. During sampling,
it shall take sample from different depths, AND the sampling amount is almost
same for each sampling.
7.2.2 In case of bulk delivery, the number of sampling points per batch shall not
be less than 10, and each sampling amount shall not be less than 10 kg, which
constitutes the total sample; AND in case of packaged delivery, the number of
packaging bags from which sample is taken in each batch shall be not less
than 20, and each sampling amount shall not be less than 5 kg, which
constitutes the total sample.
7.2.3 Sample preparation
It shall be in accordance with the provisions of clause 4.3 in GB/T 2007.2-1987
on “Sample preparation procedures”.
7.3 Testing
The basic analysis items include free water, combined water, and sulfur
trioxide. Other analysis items shall be as agreed upon by both the supplier and
purchaser.
7.4 Judgement rules
7.4.1 It shall be in accordance with the provisions of clause 5.2 of this standard
to judge the product category, AND in accordance with the clause 6.2 to
calculate the product grade.
7.4.2 Where there is an indicator in the test results does not meet the
requirements of clause 5.1 ~ 5.2 of this standard, this indicator shall be
re-tested. Retest results are used as the final determination results.
8 Marking, packaging, transport and storage
