1 Scope

This Standard specifies the accelerated weathering test methods and evaluation methods of automotive nonmetal components and materials using irradiance-controlled xenon-arc apparatus.. This Standard is applicable to the automotive nonmetal components and materials, such as plastics, rubber, textiles, leather, adhesives, coatings and etc..

2 Normative References

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. 3.1 Xenon lamp A luminous gas lamp that is charged with xenon. 3.2 Spectral power distribution SPD The absolute or relative radiant power that is emitted by a light source or accepted by an object; it is the function of the wavelength. 3.3 Irradiance The radiant energy that is accepted on the surface of test specimen, per unit of time and per unit of area. 3.4 Radiant Irradiance’s time’s integration. 3.5 Black panel thermometer A temperature measuring apparatus that is consisted of corrosion-resistant metal plate and sensor, whose surface is coated with black light absorbing coating; it is used to indicate the maximum temperature that the test specimen, during the test period, may reach.

4 Test Equipment

4.1 Test equipment takes xenon lamp as radiation source. Test specimen is installed within the test chamber; it shall ensure the consistence of test condition of test specimen. 4.2 Equipment’s manufacturer is responsible for the equipment approval, providing test equipment’s key parameter indicators, including the spectral power distribution (SPD) etc. 4.3 Unless otherwise agreed by both parties of the test, the test equipment shall be installed with black panel thermometer or black standard thermometer. 4.4 Test equipment shall ensure, at any location in the test specimen exposure area, the irradiance is 70% maximum irradiance in this region at least.

5 Test Specimen

5.1 The dimension of test specimen shall be coordinated to confirm by both parties of the test. 5.2 Before the test, test specimen shall be cleaned; the detergent that may erode the specimen surface shall not be used. Never wash away the protective film that is intentionally coated on the sample surface. 5.4 The quantity of specimen shall be at least two blocks; one block is for file specimen, which is used for evaluation and comparison; and stored in the dark and dry environment. Unless otherwise agreed by both parties of the test, the file specimen generally shall not be shielded by half. 5.5 In order to provide aging record with different time interval, sufficient specimens shall be provided. 5.6 The soft specimen shall be fixed on the back of inert metal plate.

6 Test Conditions & Methods

6.1 In accordance with Appendix A, maintain and calibrate the test equipment. When testing the automotive interior parts, it shall be according to Appendix B and C; use reference materials; 6.2 The water used for spraying, humidifying or other uses shall not leave any deposits or smudges on the test specimen; solid particle content in water shall not exceed one millionth; silicon dioxide content shall not exceed two ten-millionths; the determination of silicon dioxide shall refer to GB/T 6682-2008. 6.3 When testing the automotive interior parts, firstly turn off all sprinkling devices on the equipment, so as to prevent the accidental spraying to the test specimen. 6.6 When testing the automotive interior parts, according to the actual situation, both parties of test shall negotiate to select certain test method for testing from Table 1. Generally, test method A-1 is recommended to use. 6.7 When testing the automotive exterior parts, according to the actual situation, both parties of test shall negotiate to select certain test method for testing from Table 2. Generally, test method B-1 is recommended to use.

7 Test Steps

7.1 The dimension of test specimen shall conform to the requirement of specimen holder; while the installation of irregular test specimen shall be negotiated by both parties of the test. 7.2 It shall machine the test specimen till it can be installed within the test equipment used test holder; adjust the state of test specimen as per the requirements given in GB/T 2918-1998. 7.6 Different test specimens that have mutual effects towards the test results shall not be installed within the same test chamber to test at the same time. 7.7 Select test method; set each test required radiant or time. It is suggested, during the test period, to apply the reference materials to compare at the same time. 7.8 During the test period, regularly change the test specimen’s position, so that further improve the consistence of the test. If it is specially required, both parties of the test shall agree on the changing mode of test specimen.

8 Result and Evaluation

8.1 Evaluation of degree of discoloration 8.1.1 Instrument measurement Use instrument to measure the test specimen’s color values in CIE LAB color space before test and after accept certain radiant; calculate color difference; the measuring process can refer to Appendix B. 8.1.2.Visual observation method 8.1.2.1 According to AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1-2007, apply AATCC grey card to evaluate the colorfastness. 8.1.2.2 Under the measuring condition given in AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1-2007, the degree of discoloration is described in the following terms. 8.2 Other evaluation indicators It can be agreed by both parties of the test. Specimen’s gloss change, pulverization, cracking, foaming, rusting, peeling, stocking of mould can refer to GB/T 1766-2008 and GB/T 15596-2009.

9 Test Report

Test report shall include the following contents.

Appendix A

(Normative) Maintenance, Replacement and Calibration of Test Equipment A.1 Maintenance A1.1 To obtain the best test result, clean the test equipment regularly. Generally, the cleaning frequency mainly depends on test water quality, instrument air quality, and lab air quality. A.1.2 Cleaning steps shall refer to the use instructions of equipment, the following parts shall be particularly concerned. A.1.4 According to the equipment requirements, maintain the humidity control system. A.1.5 Check the running state of equipment everyday, so as to ensure each test parameters conform to the regulated requirements, and ensure them accurate. A.2 Replacement A.2.1 Consumptive materials shall be replaced in strict accordance with equipment requirements; pay attention to the following components. xenon lamp pipe, light filter, optical components. When the stipulated irradiance can’t be reached or components generate obvious changes, such as discoloration of light filter, increasing of lamp pipe’s opacity, then the xenon lamp pipe and (or) filter need replacing. ......
