1 Scope

methods of automotive nonmetal components and materials using
irradiance-controlled xenon-arc apparatus...
This Standard is applicable to the automotive nonmetal components and materials,
such as plastics, rubber, textiles, leather, adhesives, coatings and etc..

3.7 Test specimen
It is used to expose the test specimen.
3.8 File specimen
Specimen, stored under stable conditions, that has not undertaken the exposure test;
it is used to compare the changes of performance before and after the exposing
period.
3.9 Reference material
A performance-known material, which is used to monitor whether the xenon lamp runs
properly.
4 Test Equipment
4.1 Test equipment takes xenon lamp as radiation source. Test specimen is installed
within the test chamber; it shall ensure the consistence of test condition of test
specimen. The test equipment shall, through certain method, automatically control the
irradiance, black panel temperature/black standard temperature, air temperature of
the chamber, and the relative humidity within the chamber. Before the test, both
parties of test shall agree on the test equipment’s manufacturer and test equipment’s
model. Detailed reference of the test equipment shall refer to GB/T 16422.1-2006.
4.2 Equipment’s manufacturer is responsible for the equipment approval, providing
test equipment’s key parameter indicators, including the spectral power distribution
(SPD) etc. It shall adopt some recognized standard reference materials to conduct
verification test against the test equipment, such as polystyrene light-resistant
standard materials, AATCC L4 blue wool standard fabrics. Equipment’s manufacturer
shall provide some necessary data to prove the comparability of test results against
different models of equipment; which shall at least include 250nm~800nm relative
spectral energy distribution, as well as the data on the repeatability and reproducibility
of the standard reference materials. Both parties of test shall, before the test, shall
confirm the equipment’s model.
NOTE. In the daily test, different equipment may generate different test results; the test results
depend on the characteristics of test sample and design of test equipment.
4.3 Unless otherwise agreed by both parties of the test, the test equipment shall be
installed with black panel thermometer or black standard thermometer.
4.4 Test equipment shall ensure, at any location in the test specimen exposure area,
the irradiance is 70% maximum irradiance in this region at least.
GB/T 2918-1998.
7.3 According to the operation instructions of test equipment, expose the test
specimen, so that its surface can accept the irradiance uniformly.
7.4 When testing the textile for interior parts, add white cardboard as back lining. As
for other types of test specimen except for the textile, if their dimensions are smaller
than the specimen holder, then add white cardboard as the back lining.
7.5 To maintain the consistence of test condition, all vacancies on the specimen
holder shall apply inert, non-reflective plate (such as white cardboard) to fill; if the
plate generates obvious deformation, it shall be replaced.
7.6 Different test specimens that have mutual effects towards the test results shall
not be installed within the same test chamber to test at the same time.
7.7 Select test method; set each test required radiant or time. It is suggested, during
the test period, to apply the reference materials to compare at the same time.
7.8 During the test period, regularly change the test specimen’s position, so that
further improve the consistence of the test. If it is specially required, both parties of the
test shall agree on the changing mode of test specimen.
NOTE. Additional operation of test equipment, such as, during the test period open the test
chamber to inspect test specimen, may lead to the deviation of test results.
8 Result and Evaluation
8.1 Evaluation of degree of discoloration
8.1.1 Instrument measurement
Use instrument to measure the test specimen’s color values in CIE LAB color space
before test and after accept certain radiant; calculate color difference; the measuring
process can refer to Appendix B.
8.1.2. Visual observation method
8.1.2.1 According to AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1-2007, apply AATCC grey card to
evaluate the colorfastness.
8.1.2.2 Under the measuring condition given in AATCC Evaluation Procedure
1-2007, the degree of discoloration is described in the following terms.
a) No change – test specimen has no change on hue, lightness and saturation;
b) Minor change – conduct close-distance observation against the test specimen, it

Maintenance, Replacement and Calibration of Test Equipment
A.1 Maintenance
A1.1 To obtain the best test result, clean the test equipment regularly. Generally, the
cleaning frequency mainly depends on test water quality, instrument air quality, and
lab air quality.
