Foreword
This Standard was drafted according to the provisions given by GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces GB/T 2978-2008 “Size designation, dimensions, inflation
pressure and load capacity for passenger car tyres”. Compared with GB/T 2978-1997,
this Standard has the main changes as follows.
— ADD the provisions for identification mark "ZR", and speed symbol of radial
tyres for passenger cars with speed of over 300 km/h (see Chapter 4);
— ADD the expressing methods of run-flat tires (see Chapter 4);
— ADJUST the maximum total width of new radial tyres for passenger cars (see
Table 1; Table 1 of 2008 edition);
— ADJUST the maximum total width of new tyres with rim protector lines (see
Table 1; Table 1 of 2008 edition);
— ADD the requirements for maximum outer diameter, and tyres maximum overall
diameter for use of new snow tyres (see Table 1);
— ADD the gas pressure requirement for peripheral measurement scale of car bias
tyres that are reserved-produced (see Table 1);
— ADJUST partial specifications standard load index (see Table 1 and Table 8;
Table 1 and Table 8 of 2008 edition);
— ADD the 70, 65, 60, 55, 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, 25 series of radial tyres for
passenger cars, and Type T temporary-use spare tyre for passenger cars (see
Table 3~13);
— ADJUST the requirements for the maximum total width and maximum outer
diameter of new Type T temporary-use spare tyre - radial tyres and bias tyres
(see Table 13; Table 13 of 2008 edition);
— ADJUST the inflation pressure for measurement scale of Type T temporary-use
spare tyre (Table 13; Table 13 of 2008 edition);
— DELETE partial radial tyres for passenger cars that are reserved-produced (see
Table 14; Table 14 of 2008 edition);
— DELETE partial bias tyres for passenger cars that are reserved-produced (see
Table 15; Table 15 of 2008 edition);
— ADJUST partial load capacity of enhanced radial car tire for passenger cars (see
Table 17; Table 17 of 2008 edition).
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 19 on

Size designation, dimensions, inflation pressure and
load capacity for passenger car tyres
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the passenger car tyres’ terms and definitions, size
designation methods; dimensions, inflation pressures, and loads that are
corresponding to size designation etc.
This Standard is applicable to new pneumatic tyres of passenger cars.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential for the application of this document. For dated
references, only the dated editions apply to this document. For undated references,
the latest editions (including all corrections) of the referenced documents apply to this
document.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Standard, the terms and definitions established in GB/T 6326
apply.
4 Size Designation Method
The passenger car tyres are defined and represented by size designation marks and
instructions for use.
6 Inflating Valves
The model of inflating valves should meet the requirements specified in Table 20; if
valves of other models are to be used, the user shall consult with the manufacturer.
