Mixtures of Polyester and Some Other Fibers (Method
Using Phenol and Tetrachloroethane)
Warning. the personnel using this Standard shall have the hands-on working
experience in formal laboratory. This Standard doesn’t address all possible
safety issues. The users have the responsibility to take appropriate safety and
health measures, and ensure the compliance with the relevant national
regulations.
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 2910 specifies the method of using phenol and tetrachloroethane
method to determine, after removing the non-fibrous substances, the content of
polyester fiber in the binary mixture.
--- Polyester fiber
and
--- Polyacrylonitrile fiber, modified polyacrylonitrile fiber, polypropylene fiber or aramid
fiber.
This Part is not applicable to the coated fabric.
2 Normative References
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Part through
reference in this Part of GB/T 2910.For dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Part, however,

GB/T 2910.1 Textiles - Quantitative Chemical Analysis - Part 1.General Principles
of Testing (GB/T 2910.1-2009, ISO 1833-1.2006, IDT)
3 Principles
Use the phenol and tetrachloroethane mixed reagent to dissolve and remove the
polyester fiber from the mixture with known dry mass.
4 Reagents
Use the reagents specified in GB/T 2910.1 and this Part.
4.1 Phenol and tetrachloroethane mixed solution. 6.4 (mass fraction).
Safety warning. such reagent has a certain toxicity, users shall take complete
protective measures.
5 Apparatus
Use the apparatus specified in GB/T 2910.1, as well as 5.1 and 5.2 in this Part.
5.1 Conical flask with stopper. minimum capacity of 250mL.
6 Test Procedures
It shall be performed as per the general procedures specified in GB/T 2910.1.Then
operate as per the following procedures.
Place the specimen into the conical flask (5.1). Each gram of test object shall be added
with 100mL of phenol/tetrachloroethane solution (4.1). Shake the conical flask for
10min in the (40±5) °C heating device (5.2); then pour the liquid into the weighed
crucible, pump and filter with the suction filtration device.
7 Result Calculation and Expression
Calculate the result as per GB/T 2910.1.
Value d for other fibers is 1.00 except for Value d for polypropylene fiber is 1.01.
8 Precision
For the homogeneous mixture of textile materials, the confidence limit of the testing
results of this method shall not exceed ±1 at the 95% confidence level.
