GB/T 228.1 Metallic Materials - Tensile Testing - Part 1: Method of Test at Room Temperature GB/T 231.1 Metallic Materials - Brinell Hardness Test - Part 1: Test Method GB/T 5121 (All parts) Methods for Chemical Analysis of Copper and Copper Alloys GB/T 8063 Designation of Cast Nonferrous Metals and Their Alloys YS/T 482 Methods for Analysis of Copper and Copper Alloys - The Atomic Emission Spectrometry 3 Designation and Code of Alloys 3.1 Designation of alloys The designation of casting copper and copper alloys shall meet the requirements of GB/T 8063, and see Table 1 for the designation of alloys. 3.2 Alloy nomenclature According to the requirements of GB/T 8063, the alloy is named based on the mass fraction of its major elements, e.g., 5-5-5 tin bronze, 38 brass and 25-6-3-3 aluminum brass. 4.1.2 ZCuAl10Fe3 alloy is applicable to welding parts, and the lead content shall not exceed 0.02%. 4.1.3 ZCuZn40Mn3Fe1 alloy is applicable to boat propeller, and the copper content is 55.0%~59.0%. 4.1.4 ZCuSn5Pb5Zn5, ZCuSn10Zn2, ZCuPb10Sn10, ZCuPb15Sn8 and ZCuPb20Sn5 alloys are applicable to centrifugal casting and continuous casting, and the phosphorus content is determined through negotiation of the supplier and the purchaser. 4.1.5 ZCuAl8Mn13Fe3Ni2 alloy is applicable to metal mold casting and centrifugal casting, and the aluminum content is 6.8%~8.5%. 4.2 Mechanical properties 4.2.1 The room-temperature mechanical properties of as-cast alloy shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 3. 4.2.2 The mechanical properties of the alloy shall be determined with separately cast test bar, test block, or the sample processed with attached test block. The shape and dimension of the casting test block are detailed in Annex A. 4.2.3 The mechanical property samples are taken from the casting body, and the sampling position shall be confirmed by the purchaser. 4.2.4 The short proportion sample with diameter of 14mm and gauge length of 70mm in its working part shall be adopted for the tensile sample. The short proportion sample with diameter of other dimensions in its working part is permissible if confirmed by the purchaser. The tensile strength of main body samples of sand mold casting shall not be less than 80% of the values specified in Table 3, and the elongation shall not be less than 50% of the values specified in Table 3. Table 3 -- Room-temperature Mechanical Properties of Casting Copper and Copper Alloys No. Alloy designation Casting method Room-temperature mechanical property; not less than Tensile strength Rm/Mpa Yield strength Rp0.2/Mpa Elongation A/% Brinell hardness HBW 1 ZCu99 S 150 40 40 40 2 ZCuSn3Zn8Pb6Ni1 S 175 8 60 J 215 10 70 3 ZCuSn3Zn11Pb4 S, R 175 8 60 J 215 10 60 4 ZCuSn5Pb5Zn5 S, J, R 200 90 13 60* The chemical compositions of alloys are inspected according to those specified in GB/T 5121 (all parts) or YS/T 482. Other test methods are allowable to be adopted only if the analysis precision is guaranteed. In case of any dispute exists in the analysis results, it shall be arbitrated according to GB/T 5121 (all parts). 5.2 Mechanical properties 5.2.1 The tensile test is conducted according to the requirements of GB/T 228.1. 5.2.2 The hardness test is conducted according to the requirements of GB/T 231.1. 6 Test Rules 6.1 Chemical compositions 6.1.1 Only the major elements of the alloy compositions are analyzed, and the analysis for impurity elements is determined through negotiation of the supplier and the purchaser. 6.1.2 If there is any unqualified element in the chemical compositions, resample is allowable for the analysis of the unqualified element. If the retest result is still unqualified, the chemical compositions of the alloys are regarded as unqualified. 6.2 Mechanical properties 6.2.1 Tensile test is conducted with the tensile sample (one) specified in 4.2.4. If the test result fails to meet those specified in Table 3, retest is conducted with another two samples, if one sample in the retest is unqualified, the mechanical properties of the alloy are regarded as unqualified. 6.2.2 If the property is unqualified due to the test or the defect on the sample, the test is invalid and resample shall be done for retest. 6.2.3 The hardness and tensile property are tested simultaneously, and the test methods are consistent. 6.2.4 The mechanical properties of the alloys with heat treatment requirements are determined through negotiation of the supplier and the purchaser. Annex B (Informative) The Main Features and Application Examples of Casting Copper and Copper Alloys The main features and application examples of casting copper and copper alloys are detailed in Table B.1. Table B.1 -- The Main Features and Application Examples of Casting Copper and Copper Alloys No. Alloy designation Main feature Application example 1 ZCu99 It has good conductivity, diathermancy and extensibility, good corrosion resistance in atmosphere, freshwater and sea water with slow flow rate, a narrow solidification range and good mobility, and is applicable to sand mold, metal mold and continuous castings, as well as argon arc welding. It is served as the tuyere of blast furnace and cinder notch, the tuyere in blast furnace and cinder notch, cooling plate, cooling wall; oxygen lance nozzle for electric steelmaking, electrode jaw and melting channel; cooling piece for flash smelting furnace in non-ferrous metal metallurgy; shielding case for large electrical machine, conductive connecting piece; it may also be adopted for drinking water pipes, copper crucible, etc. 2 ZCuSn3Zn8Pb6Ni1 It's easy to be processed, and it has good abrasion resistance, casting properties, relatively good air tightness, corrosion resistance, and it may be served in a flowing sea water environment. It is used for parts working in various liquid fuels, sea water, freshwater and steam (≤225℃), or valve and pipe fittings with pressure ≤2.5MPa. 3 ZCuSn3Zn11Pb4 It has good casting properties, corrosion resistance and it's easy to be processed. It is used in environment like sea water, freshwater and steam, or in pipe fittings with pressure ≤2.5MPa. 4 ZCuSn5Pb5Zn5 It has good abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance, relatively good casting properties and air tightness, and it's easy to be processed. It is used for parts with good wear-proof and corrosion-proof performances and work under relatively heavy load and at a moderate sliding speed, such as bearing bush, bushing, cylinder sleeve, piston clutch, gland for pumps, worm gear, etc. 5 ZCuSn10P1 It has good hardness and corrosion resistance in atmosphere and freshwater, relatively good abrasion resistance, casting properties and machinability; seizure phenomenon doesn’t occur easily.
