3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions are applicable to this Standard. 3.1 dual phase steel (DP) Steel whose microstructure is mainly ferrite and martensite, or a small amount of bainite and other structures. Note. Dual phase steel is not only of higher tensile strength level, but also of lower yield ratio and higher work hardening rate. 3.2 high hole expansion steel (HE) Steel whose microstructure is mainly “ferrite + bainite” or ferrite (or strengthened ferrite) or bainite (or strengthened bainite), etc. Note. High hole expansion steel is of higher tensile strength, higher formability and good flange flanging formability. High hole expansion steel is sometimes also called ferritic bainite steel (FB) or high flange flanging high strength steel (SF). 3.3 transformation induced plasticity steel (TR) Steel whose microstructure is mainly ferrite, bainite and retained austenite, where the retained austenite, during the forming process, can be transformed into martensite. Note. Transformation induced plasticity steel is of higher work hardening rate, uniform elongation and tensile strength. 3.4 complex phase steels (CP) The microstructure is mainly composed of a small amount of martensite, retained austenite or pearlite distributed in a ferrite and/or bainite matrix.
