Preface
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents"
Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 4236-2016 “Test method for sulfur print of steel”. Compared with GB/T 4236-2016, except for the structural adjustment and
In addition to the logical changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) The “Scope of Application” of the standard has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2016 edition);
b) Added the terms and definitions of “positive segregation”, “negative segregation”, “central segregation”, “spotted segregation” and “linear segregation” (see Chapter 3);
c) The description of the principle of the sulfur print test has been changed (see 4.3, 3.3 of the.2016 edition);
d) Added the factor affecting the darkening of the photosensitive emulsion (see 4.5);
e) The description of sampling location has been changed (see 5.1, 4.1 of the.2016 edition);
f) The description of the sampling method has been changed (see 5.2, 4.2 of the.2016 edition);
g) The description of the processing method has been changed (see 5.3, 4.3 of the.2016 edition);
h) The table of recommended reagent types and concentrations has been modified (see 6.2, 5.2.1 of the.2016 edition);
i) Added “Test Results” for spot segregation and linear segregation (see Chapter 10).
This document is modified to adopt ISO 4968.2022 "Method for the low-magnification examination of sulphur prints on steel (Bowman method)".
Compared with ISO 4968.2022, this document has many structural adjustments. The structural changes between the two documents are shown in the table.
Appendix A.
This document has many technical differences compared to ISO 4968.2022.
A table of these technical differences and their causes is given in Appendix B.

Sulfur print test method for steel
1 Scope
This document specifies the principles and purpose of the sulfur print test method for steel, sampling and preparation, materials and reagents, fixing solution, test procedures, test
Safety, inspection results and test reports.
This document is applicable to steel with a sulfur content (mass fraction) less than 0.40%, and cast iron can also be used for reference.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute the essential clauses of this document through normative references in this document.
For referenced documents without a date, only the version corresponding to that date applies to this document; for referenced documents without a date, the latest version (including all amendments) applies to
This document.
GB/T 226 Acid etching method for macrostructure and defects of steel
GB 8978 Comprehensive Wastewater Discharge Standard
GB/T 30067 Metallographic Terminology
3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 30067 and the following apply to this document.
3.1
positive segregation
The concentration of low-melting-point alloy components or constituents in the last solidified area.
3.2
negative segregation
The concentration of low-melting-point alloy components or constituents in the first solidification area.
3.3
Central segregation
When an ingot or casting solidifies, due to the uneven distribution of alloying elements and impurity elements, components gather in its center.
3.4
Dispersed segregation
In the macrostructure of ingots or castings, there are spot-like areas with obvious differences in chemical composition from the matrix. These areas are scattered and large.
Small difference.
3.5
linear segregation
In the macrostructure of an ingot or casting, an approximately linear area with a significant difference in chemical composition from the matrix.
4 Principles and Purpose
4.1 The sulfur print test is a qualitative test and cannot determine the sulfur content of steel.
