Practical performance evaluation methods
1 Scope
This standard specifies the test requirements and test methods for evaluation of practical
performance of respiratory protective equipment.
This standard is applicable to all kinds of respiratory protective equipment that are used
for preventing respiratory hazards.
This standard is not applicable to diving breathing apparatus.
2 Normative references

amendments (excluding corrections), or revisions, of any of these publications do not
apply to this standard. However, the parties who agree on this standard are encouraged to

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 12903, as well
as the following apply.
3.1
respiratory protective equipment; respiratory protective device
respirator
protective equipment designed to protect the wearer from hypoxia and/or protect the
wearer's respiratory tract against inhalation of air pollutants.
3.2
practical performance
evaluation of respiratory protective equipment during simulation of typical work or escape
activities.
3.3
air-purifying respiratory protective equipment
respiratory protective equipment in which ambient air inhaled in working environment is
passed through an air-purifying components that remove the contaminants through
adsorption, absorption, catalysis or filtration.
3.4
non-powered air-purifying respiratory protective equipment
air purifying respirator (APR)
air-purifying respiratory protective equipment that overcomes the resistance of
component(s) via the wearer's breathing.
4 Test requirements
4.1 General test requirements
The following conditions shall be determined before performing practical performance test
to any respirator with this standard.
4.2 Test-examinees
4.2.1 Selection of test-examinees
Test-examinees who have experience in wearing the same type of respirator-under-test
shall be selected. Prior to the tests, the medical history of the test-examinees shall be
checked to ensure that their physical conditions are satisfactory for the tasks involved; it
can withstand the work intensity and meet relevant requirements.
4.3 Test conditions
The test temperature and relative humidity shall be 16°C~32°C and 30%~80%
respectively, and shall be recorded in the test report.
5 Test methods
5.1 Principle
Test-examinees wear the respirator samples-under-test in accordance with the
requirements of the operating instructions perform activities in simulation of practical use.
They are then asked to assess the convenience, wearing comfort and functional
characteristics of the samples subjectively and comment accordingly.
5.4 Test items
All test items specified in this standard are shown in Table 1.
5.5.5 Prior to the test, whether the respirator is worn correctly shall be inspected. Inform
the test-examinee that adjustment is allowed when the respirator needs to be adjusted
during the test.
5.5.6 According to the type of the respirator-under-test, the test items shall be
determined according to Table 2.The sequence of test items shall be determined by the
responsible person in the test as appropriate, with the total test time not less than 30 min.
6 Evaluation method
6.1 The responsible person in the test shall determine the evaluation items to be
implemented according to the type of respirator-under-test and the evaluation items given
in Table 3.
6.2 The test-examinee shall learn the evaluation items in advance, experience the
related evaluation items during the test, and make subjective evaluation.
6.4 The responsible person in the test shall summarize the evaluation opinions of
test-examinees, focuses on reviewing and judging the poor characteristics of the
respirator-under-test, and shall be responsible for writing the practical performance
evaluation report.
