foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents"
drafted.
This document replaces GB/T 18374-2008 "Terms and Definitions of Reinforcing Materials". Compared with GB/T 18374-2008, except for structural adjustment
In addition to editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Reclassified and arranged according to the nature of the entries;
b) Deleted the terms and definitions related to carbon fiber (see Chapter 4 of the.2008 edition);
c) Deleted some terms and definitions indicating the grades of molding compounds and composite materials and resins (see Chapter 6 and Chapter.2008 of the.2008 edition)
Chapter 7);
d) Added related terms and definitions of new glass fibers, composite fibers, ceramic fibers, polymer fibers, and new technology fibers (see Section
Chapter 3);
e) Added relevant terms and definitions for new fabrics (see Chapter 4).

Reinforcement terminology
1 Scope
This document defines terms and definitions related to reinforcement materials.
This document applies to reinforcements of composite materials.
2 Normative references
There are no normative references in this document.
3 Reinforcing fiber terms
3.1
fiber; fiber
A filamentous unit of matter with a large aspect ratio.
3.2
continuousfibre
Fibers with a sufficiently large aspect ratio in continuous lengths (3.1).
3.3
staple fiber
Short fibers of spinnable length (3.1).
NOTE. Can be cut short during drawing, or cut into segments from continuous fibers (3.2).
3.4
reinforcement fiber
The fiber (3.1) material added to the matrix can significantly improve its mechanical properties.
Note. The matrix can be polymers, inorganic compounds, carbon or metal materials, etc.
3.5
glass fiber glassfibre;glassfiber;fiberglass
Fibers (3.1) or filaments obtained by drawing molten glass.
3.6
textile fiberglasstextileglass
Generic term for textile materials made of continuous glass fibers (3.5) and cut-to-length glass fibers.
3.7
E-glassfiberE-glassfibre;E-glassfiber
It is a general-purpose glass drawn from glass with SiO2-Al2O3-CaO-MgO-B2O3 as the main component, which has both electrical insulation, strength and durability
Fiber (3.5).
Note. It may contain boron or not (or a small amount) of boron, and the mass fraction of alkali metal oxides is usually 0% to 2%.
3.8
E-CR glass fiber E-CR glass fiber; E-CR glass fiber
Glass fiber (3.5) drawn from glass of specific composition formed by modification of boron-free E glass to improve acid resistance.
