Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard is a revision of GB/T 17685-2003 "Down and Feather".
Compared with GB/T 17685-2003, the major changes of this Standard are as follows.
-- Add reference to "GSB 16-2763" in "Normative references";
-- Remove "code name, product name";
-- Unify requirements for "washed" and "unwashed" down and feather products;
-- Modify the definitions of long feather, landfowl feather, oxygen number, fat and
oil content, and the English names of plumule and colored down and feather, and,
in accordance with international practice, change transparency to turbidity;
remove the definitions of bristle feather and related microbes; add the definitions
of down and feather, and quill feather;
-- Adjust indicators such as "allowable deviation of down content", "filling power",
"oxygen number", "turbidity", "fat and oil content", "down fiber + feather fiber"
and "smell";
-- Modify "duck down content" to "goose down content";
-- Add requirements for "quill feather";
-- Remove requirements for "colored down and feather" and "moisture rate";
-- Remove requirements for "microbes";
-- Adjust the content of "marking, packaging, transportation and storage";
-- Remove the normative Appendix A "Photographic standard of plumule".
This Standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 252 on
Leather of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 252).

Down and feather
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, judgment
rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of down and feather.
This Standard applies to the production, processing and trade of down and feather.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this
document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references,
the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1
Down and feather
A collective term for the down and feather that grow on waterfowl. Where the nominal
value of "down content" is greater than or equal to 50%, it is called "down"; where the
nominal value of "down content" is less than 50%, it is called "feather". Common
species are goose down and duck down.
3.2
Down
Including down cluster, nestling down, plumule, damaged down.
3.3
Down content
The mass percentage of down in down and feather.
3.4
Down cluster
A down whose core emits many down fibers and forms florets.
3.5
Nestling down
The down that is not fully grown, which is umbrella-shaped.
4 Requirements
Down and feather products are not allowed to contain quill feathers, and the quality
requirements shall comply with the provisions of Table 1.
5 Test methods
Perform the inspection according to GB/T 10288; where physical control is required,
perform in accordance with GSB 16-2763, and make appropriate judgment and
classification.
6 Judgement rules
If one of the requirements is unqualified, judge the batch of products to be unqualified.
7 Marking, packaging, transportation and storage
7.1 Marking
The product shall be marked with the product name, product standard number, article
number, etc.
7.2 Packaging
Appropriate packaging materials shall be used for machine-pressed or loose-packed
packaging, so as to prevent damage to the product during transportation and storage.
