3 Symbols

The following symbols apply to this document.

4 Principle

Cyclic load is applied to the rail head at the loading position and direction, shown in Figure 1.

5 Test Parameters

5.1 Maximum load of cyclic loads

6 Test Equipment

6.1 Steel rail A short rail section, approximately 0.5 m or 1 m in length (as shown in Figure 2, cut off 15 mm at rail-waist of 60 kg/m steel rail, total height is 161 mm, the rail bottom shall not be untrimmed). The steel rail shall be free from stripping or rust on the surface. The rail bottom shall not be polished by repeated tests. Figure 2 Steel Rail Section 6.2 Loading equipment The equipment is capable of reaching 100 kN under the frequency 3 Hz ~ 5 Hz during a single bearing surface test. Its loading capacity shall be increased accordingly when 2 or 4 bearing surfaces are required to be loaded simultaneously. 6.5 Loading frame The loading frame is capable of distributing equally the load applied to two steel rails according to the action line required; it is capable of applying cyclic load on steel rail head according to the loading position and direction, shown in Figure 1. 6.7 Load sensor The instrument measuring the load applied on steel rail or loading frame, its accuracy is class I.

7 Test Pieces

7.1 Sleeper The sleeper, ½-sleeper or slab rail element that has fastener embedded parts or reserved holes (all named sleeper in the test method). The bearing surface of sleeper shall not be trimmed for the test. 7.2 Fastener A complete set of fastener that includes all components.

8 Test Method for a Single Rail

8.1 General The test method for single rails is applicable to the test in which a single rail is fixed to one end of sleeper or a half sleeper with fasteners. No adjustment, re-screwing or trimming of fastening assembly shall be made during the test. 8.2 Test procedure 8.3 Assembly fastening pressure Determine the assembly fastening pressure of fasteners according to the method specified in TB/T 3396.2. 8.4 Rail lateral resistance Determine the rail lateral resistance of fasteners according to the method specified in TB/T 3396.1. 8.5 Assembly static rigidity Determine the static rigidity of fastening assembly according to the method specified in TB/T 3396.3. 8.7 Repeated test After 10×106 loading cycles, remove load from all fastening components used for the test; conduct the repeated test according to the following sequence after placing them aside for 24 h. assembly static rigidity (see 8.5), rail vertical resistance (see 8.4), and assembly fastening pressure (see 8.3).

9 Alternative Test Method

9.1 General The alternative test method is applicable to the test in which the fastening system is used to fix two rails on one or two sleepers. No adjustment, re-screwing or trimming shall be made for the fastening assembly during the test. 9.2 Test procedure 9.3 Assembly fastening pressure Determine the assembly fastening pressure of fasteners according to the method specified in TB/T 3396.2; take the average value of two fastening systems for the assembly fastening pressure. 9.4 Rail vertical resistance Determine the rail vertical resistance of fasteners according to the method specified in TB/T 3396.1; take the average value of two fastening systems for the rail vertical resistance. 9.7 Repeated test After 10×106 loading cycles, remove load; all fastening components used for the test are placed aside for 24 h; conduct the repeated test according to the following sequence. assembly static rigidity (see 9.5), rail vertical resistance (see 9.4), and assembly fastening pressure (see 9.3).

10 Final Inspection

At the end of the test, disassemble the fasteners; check whether the fastening components are damaged by visual inspection; and meanwhile, check the reliability of all embedded parts in sleepers.
