This standard specifies the specimens, equipment, conditions, procedures and results calculation for measuring the impact properties with Charpy impact method. This standard is applicable to measure the impact properties of fibre-reinforced plastics composites specimens with nicks; while the impact properties measurement of specimens without nicks may refer to this standard.2 Normative References
The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in the following text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated reference, subsequent amendments (excluding correction) to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. GB/T 1446—2005 Fiber-reinforced plastics composites-The generals3 Test Principles
Both ends of specimen with V-nick are horizontally placed on a support; the nick is back on impact pendulum; then pendulum strike the middle specimen once to make specimen generate stress concentration during impact and then enable the specimen to break rapidly.4 Specimen
4.1 Type and dimension of specimen 4.1.1 Type and dimension of fabric specimen whose nick direction is vertical to layer are shown in Figure 1.6 Test Conditions
Test conditions shall meet the provisions specified in Chapter 3 of GB/T 1446-2005.7 Test Procedures
7.1 Specimen appearance inspection shall meet the provisions specified in Article 4.2 of GB/T 1446-2005. 7.2 Specimen status shall be adjusted according to the provisions specified in Article 4.4 of GB/T 1446-2005. 7.3 Those qualified specimens are numbered; then the width at nick of specimen is measured and the minimum thickness at nick is measured with projector or other measuring instrument. In addition, the measuring accuracy shall meet the provisions stated in Article 4.5.1 of GB/T 1446-2005. 7.4 Pendulum with proper energy is selected so as to ensure the consumed power to break specimen is within 10%~85% full scale. 7.5 Support span is adjusted to be (70±0.5)mm with sample plate with standard span. 7.6 Whether spacer shall be added on a support is determined according to specimen dimension and the position of center impacted by test machine. Spacer dimension shall be determined basing on test machine conditions. 7.7 Before test, one non-load impact shall be carried out to adjust the pointer of test-machine reading dial to point to zero. 7.8 The surface with nick of a specimen is back on pendulum. Specimen is placed with specimen locating plate so as to enable the nick center to align with striking center. 7.9 Impaction is carried out and the power consumed to break specimen as well as breaking type shall be recorded. 7.10 Specimen with apparent internal defect or which doesn't break at nick shall be abolished. Effective specimen amount in the same lot shall meet the provisions stated in Article 4.3.Otherwise, test shall be carried out again.8 Calculation
Impact properties is calculated according to the following formula. Where, ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
