This document was drafted in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents. This document replaces GB/T 920-2002 Code for classification and type of highway pavement. Compared with GB/T 920-2002, except for the structural adjustment and editorial revisions, the main technical changes are as follows: a) The terms and definitions, such as “pavement”, “surface course”, “hot mix asphalt surface course”, “cement concrete surface course”, “surface dressing”, “penetration macadam surface course”, “block surface course” and “gravel surface course”, are added (see 3.1~3.8); b) The classifications of pavement grades and surface course types are changed (see Chapter 4; see Chapter 3 of the 2002 edition); c) The code structure is changed (see Chapter 5; see Chapter 4 of the 2002 edition); d) The code of the pavement grade and the code of the surface course type are changed (see Chapter 6; see Chapter 5 of the 2002 edition). This document was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Traffic Engineering Facilities (Highway) of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC223).
