This document applies to tea tree cultivation and breeding. 2 Normative references This document has no normative references. 3 Terminology of the Botanical Characteristics of Tea Trees 3.1 Root 3.1.1 taproot The radicle of the tea tree seed develops into an axial root that grows vertically downward. Note. The taproot has a strong geotropism. 3.1.2 lateral root A lateral root produced after the primary growth of a taproot or adventitious root. 3.1.3 absorbing root Fine roots growing from the main root and lateral roots. Note. Absorbing roots have absorption function. 3.1.4 root hair A tubular extension formed by cells of the root apical epidermis. Note. Root hairs have the function of absorbing water and inorganic salts. 3.1.5 Normal root Main roots and lateral roots occur in specific locations. 3.1.6 adventitious root Roots that grow from the stems, leaves, old roots or rhizomes of tea trees. 3.1.7 taproot system The main root is obvious, and its thickness and length are obviously different from those of the lateral roots.
