3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
ISO and IEC maintain terminology databases for standardization at.
3.1 Overview
3.1.1
pen
A writing instrument with an ink supply system that can form stitches on the writing surface.
Note. There are exchangeable core and non-exchangeable core (one-time use) and other forms.
3.1.2
ballpoint pen balpen
A pen (3.1.1) incorporating an ink supply system based on a tip with a rotatable ball in the pen itself or in the refill (3.1.6).
3.1.3
Ink ballpoint pen balpointpen
Except for neutral ink ballpoint pens, use ballpoint pens with inks with a dynamic viscosity greater than 1000mPa·s (1000cP) at (23±2)℃
(3.1.2).
Note. In ISO 27668-1, neutral ink ballpoint pens are defined as those whose ink viscosity is significantly reduced due to the rotation of the ball during writing, and returns to the viscosity when writing is stopped.
A ballpoint pen that rises to or near resting viscosity.
3.1.4
water-based ballpoint pen rolerbalpen
In addition to neutral ink ballpoint pens, use ballpoint pens (3.1.2) with inks with a dynamic viscosity of less than 20mPa·s (20cP) at (23±2)°C.
3.1.5
ink sac cartridge
A disposable ink reservoir that can be removed from the pen when the ink runs out and is replaced with a (new) full container.
NOTE. See ISO 9175-1.
