1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, principles, reagents and methods for the determination of PCB content in coatings by gas chromatography and GC-MS.
Materials, equipment, samples, test procedures, precision and test reports.
This standard applies to the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls in paints and coatings, including but not limited to the polychlorinated chlorides listed in Table A.1 of Appendix A.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Polychlorinated biphenyls; PCBs
a polychlorinated compound formed by the substitution of hydrogen on a biphenyl benzene ring, and a type of persistent organic pollution that has a toxic effect on the living organism.
The general name of the dye.
4 Principle
Using hexane as extraction solvent, ultrasonically extracting polychlorinated biphenyls from samples, using gas chromatograph equipped with electron capture detector
(GC/ECD) or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for detection.
Note. Other approved suitable solvents may also be selected as the extraction solvent.
5 reagents and materials
Unless otherwise specified, only reagents identified as chromatographically pure and of the above purity were used in the analysis.
5.1 Hexane. purity ≥ 98% (mass fraction) or known purity.
5.2 Polychlorinated biphenyl mixed standard solution. PCB28, PCB52, PCB101, PCB118, PCB138, PCB153 and PCB180 (see
Table A.1) and the like, each substance has a concentration of 10 mg/L.
5.3 PCB209 quantitative internal standard solution. 100mg/L.
