4.1 General rules 4.1.1 Generally, each steel wire rope shall be individually packaged. 4.1.2 Packing methods include packing on reels, packing in coils, and packing in drums (boxes). The packing method shall be specified in the contract. If not specified, the supplier shall choose the method. 4.2 Packing methods 4.2.1 Packing on reels (method one) 4.2.1.1 Requirements for manufacturing of reels. a) Reels can be made of wood, steel, steel-wood, or other suitable materials. They shall have sufficient strength to ensure they are not damaged during normal transportation and rope winding/unwinding. b) Reels shall not be damp. The wood used for reels and the wood used in the packing shall be dry and free of insect holes and bark. c) The lifting supports or lifting reinforcement rings on the lifting surface of reels shall be clearly marked to prevent damage to the lifting supports or lifting reinforcement rings. d) The center shaft hole can be reinforced with metal materials if necessary. e) The diameter of the reel core is selected by the supplier, but it shall ensure that the wound steel wire rope does not deform after unwinding. 4.2.1.2 Requirements for steel wire rope winding and packing. a) Before winding the rope, to ensure moisture protection, the core and wall of the reel can be lined with neutral moisture-proof paper or other neutral moisture- proof materials. b) When winding the rope, the rope end shall be securely fixed to the reel, and the winding shall be neat and tight. c) After winding the rope, the rope end shall be securely fixed to the reel. Then, tightly wrap protective material around the outer layer of steel wire rope, and then tie it twice with metal wire (strap) or plastic packaging strap at a distance of no more than 200 mm from the inner side of the reel rim (see Figure 1). There shall be no obviously exposed steel wire rope. If the spacing between the binding strips is greater than 500 mm, an additional binding strip shall be added in the middle (see the dotted line in Figure 1). The end of the metal wire binding shall be flat. d) After winding the rope, the edge of the reel shall be higher than the outermost layer of the wound steel wire rope. for steel wire ropes with a diameter less than 15 mm, the height shall not be less than twice the diameter of the steel wire rope; for steel wire ropes with a diameter greater than or equal to 15 mm, the height shall not be less than 30 mm. e) If necessary, a wooden board or other equivalent protective material can be added to cover the reel after winding the rope. f) When necessary, packing on reels with pallets (brackets) can be used. ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
