Seamless steel pipe for
pipeline, vessel and equipment structure
1 Scope
This standard specifies the size, shape, weight, technical requirements,
inspection and testing, packaging, marking and inspection documents of
seamless steel pipe for pipeline, vessel and equipment structure.
This standard applies to the carbon steel and low alloy steel hot-rolled seamless
steel pipe which is used by BaoSteel Group to manufacture of pipeline, vessel,
equipment, and other structure having high requirements.

3 Size, shape, weight
3.1 Outer diameter and wall thickness
3.1.1 The outer diameter and wall thickness are as shown in Table 1 and Table
2. As required by the buyer, it may supply other steel pipes than those specified
in Table 1 and Table 2.
3.1.2 The allowable deviation of outer diameter shall comply with the
requirements in Table 3.
3.1.3 The allowable deviation of wall thickness shall comply with the
requirements in Table 4.
3.2 Length
3.2.1 The length of steel pipe is usually 6m ~ 12m. If agreed between the
supplier and the buyer, it may also supply the specified length steel pipe within
4.1.2 The allowable deviation of chemical composition of finished steel pipe
shall comply with the relevant provisions of GB/T 222.
4.2 Smelting method
Steel shall be the killed steel melted through electric furnace or oxygen
converter; if not particularly specified by the buyer, then the smelting method
shall be determined by the supplier.
The steel of the designations E275K2, E355K2, C22E, C35E, C45E shall be
fine-grained steel AND contain nitrogen fixation elements.
4.3 Supply status
4.3.1 The supply status of steel pipes shall comply with Table 7 and Table 8.
4.3.2 If the finish rolling temperature of the steel pipe after the hot tension rolling
(such as tension reduction) is higher than the critical phase transition
temperature Ar3 of the steel AND the pipe is air-cooled, the steel pipe shall be
regarded as normalized.
4.3.3 If steel surfaces are to be coated with anticorrosive coatings, it shall be
agreed upon when ordering.
4.4 Mechanical properties
4.4.1 The longitudinal tensile properties of steel pipes of supply status at room
temperature shall comply with the requirements in Table 7 or Table 8.
4.4.2 As for the steel pipe of designation E275K2 and E355K2, it shall be
subjected to longitudinal impact tests. The Charpy V-notch impact energy of
full-size test specimen of delivery status steel pipe shall comply with the
requirements of Table 8. When a full-size specimen cannot be prepared, it may
use the small size test specimen of width 7.5mm or 5.0mm. Impact test
specimens shall be chosen as large as possible. When it is not sufficient to
select a 5.0mm width sample, no impact test is performed. The minimum
Charpy V-notch impact energy requirements for small size test specimens of
7.5mm and 5.0mm shall be the full-size test specimen impact energy required
in Table 8 multiplied by the decrement factors 0.75 and 0.50, respectively.
4.5 Compactness
Steel pipe shall be subjected to the eddy current testing in accordance with the
acceptance level B of GB/T 7735 one by one, in order to verify the compactness
of the steel pipe. If the buyer conducts re-testing against the compactness of
It is allowed for the presence of slight raised, sunken or shallow roll marks due
to the manufacturing method, BUT the outer diameter and wall thickness of the
steel pipe must be within the allowable dimensional tolerances, without
affecting the serviceability of the steel pipe.
5 Inspection and testing
5.1 The dimension of the steel pipe shall be measured by appropriate gauges
one by one.
5.2 The inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe shall be inspected visually by
the naked eye under illumination.
5.3 The inspection items, test methods, sampling methods and sampling
quantity of steel pipes shall comply with the requirements in Table 10.
5.4 Batching rules
5.4.1 The steel pipes shall be inspected and accepted in batches. Each batch
shall be composed of the steel pipes of the same specification, the same
designation, and the same heat number. If the buyer does not make special
requirements in advance, the carbon steel pipe can be composed of the steel
pipes of different heat number, the same specifications, and the same
5.4.2 Each batch is composed of 200 steel pipes; if the number of the remaining
steel pipe is not less than 100, it can form a separate batch; if it is less than 100,
it shall be incorporated into the adjacent batch.
5.5 Re-inspection and judgement principles
5.5.1 For tensile test, flattening test and flaring test, if one test result (including
any one of the indicators required by this test) fails, it shall remove the
corresponding steel pipe, AND from the same batch, retake another 2 steel
pipes to subject to the failed test items again; if any one indicator fails in the re-
testing, this batch of steel pipes shall be not accepted.
5.5.2 For impact tests, the average value of a group of three test specimens
shall not be less than the specified value; it is allowed for one value of a sample
to fall below the specified value, BUT it shall not be less than 70% of the......
