Preface
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents"
Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 9450-2005 "Determination and verification of the depth of the hardened layer of steel parts by carburizing and quenching" and is consistent with GB/T 9450-2005.
In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2005 edition);
b) The provisions on measurement items have been changed (see Chapter 4, Chapter 4 of the.2005 edition);
c) The general provisions for determination of hardened case depth have been deleted, and the determination principle has been changed (see Chapter 5, 5.1 and 5.2 of the.2005 edition);
d) Added requirements for test equipment (see Chapter 6);
e) The requirements for test specimens have been changed (see Chapter 7, 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 of the.2005 edition);
f) The determination method has been changed (see Chapter 8, 5.3.3 of the.2005 edition);
g) The provisions for result evaluation have been changed (see Chapter 9, 5.4 of the.2005 edition);
h) The contents of the test report have been changed (see Chapter 10, Chapter 7 of the.2005 edition);
i) The chapter “Verification” has been deleted (see Chapter 6 of the.2005 edition);
j) Added the interpolation method for carburizing and quenching hardened layer depth (see Appendix A).

Carburizing quenching hardening layer depth casehardeningdepth; CHD
The vertical distance from the workpiece surface to the limit hardness of 550HV Vickers hardness value (or equivalent Knoop hardness value).
Note. Usually the hardened case depth is measured after carburizing or carbonitriding and quenching. If it is measured after quenching and tempering, it needs to be noted in the report.
