Determination of depth of quenching hardened layer on steel surface
1 Scope
This document specifies the determination principle, test equipment, specimens, test methods and procedures for the depth of surface quenching hardened layer and the total depth of surface quenching hardened layer of steel parts.
Determine the method, evaluate the results and report the test.
This document is applicable to parts that are surface hardened by induction hardening, flame hardening, laser hardening, electron beam hardening, etc.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 7232 and the following apply to this document.
3.1
The vertical distance from the workpiece surface to the specified limit hardness.
Note. Limit hardness = A × minimum surface hardness (HV) required by the technology, usually A = 0.8.
3.2
The distance from the workpiece surface to the boundary with the substrate having the same hardness.
Note. The total hardened layer depth of surface quenching is determined by hardness method or metallographic method, and metallographic method is commonly used.
4 Symbols and abbreviations
The symbols and abbreviations given in Table 1 apply to this document.
