This standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard instead of GB/T 5473-1985 "phenolic molded products free ammonia test", compared with GB/T 5473-1985, the main technical

Determination of Free Ammonia in Plastic Phenolic Molding Products
1 Scope
This standard specifies that the test paper be placed in the gas escaped from the powder sample to determine free ammonia or other volatile bases in the phenolic molded article
Qualitative method.
This standard is also applicable to the determination of non-aminophenolic molded products.
2 principle
The alkaline gas escaped from the powder sample contained in the sealed flask was measured with a wide range of test strips.
3 instruments
3.1 Equipment for making molded products into powder.

3.3 with a plug mouth glass flask. capacity 50mL.
3.4 wide range of test paper. pH1.0 ~ 11.0.
4 Preparation of sample
Use a file, milling, grinding, car or drill method to make a fully representative molded product made of powder, careful not to overheat the material. Prepared well

5 operating procedures
Weigh about 1g of the sample (Chapter 4), quickly into the flask (3.3), and immediately with the plug tight. And then moisten it with distilled water
The test paper (3.4) is clamped between the stopper and the bottleneck so that one end of the test strip is inserted into the flask.
CAUTION. Do not allow the test strip to come into contact with the specimen.
After 30 minutes, observe the change of the color of the test paper and make a record.

If the test paper does not change color, it is reported that the molded article does not contain free ammonia or other volatile bases.
If the test paper changes color, indicating an alkaline gas, the report molded article contains free ammonia or other volatile base.
