Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
The translation method used in this standard is equivalent to ISO 4121.2003 "Guidelines for the Use of Sensory Analysis Quantitative Response Scale."
The Chinese documents that have a consistent correspondence with the international documents cited in this standard are as follows.

Guidelines for the Use of Sensory Analysis Quantitative Response Scale
1 Scope
This standard gives instructions on quantitative response scales (here response refers to the intensity of perception) and guidelines for its use.
This standard applies to all quantitative evaluations in sensory evaluation, whether it is for overall quantitative evaluation or for specific attributes.
Evaluation, whether it is objective sensory evaluation or subjective preference sensory evaluation.
The scales involved in this standard are measurement scales commonly used in sensory evaluation.
Note the distinction between two common uses of the term "scale", namely the response scale (see 3.1) and the measurement scale (see 3.5).
Note. Application examples are given in Appendix A.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated reference documents, only the dated version applies to this document.
For undated references, the latest version (including all amendments) applies to this document.
ISO 5492 Sensory Analysis Terms
ISO 6658 Sensory Analysis Methodology General
ISO 85861) Sensory analysis selection, training and management of general guidelines for assessors
1) Since ISO 8586-1 and ISO 8586-2 have been merged into a standard ISO 8586, they remain consistent with the current ISO standard. Here the normative reference document is adjusted to ISO 8586.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions defined by ISO 5492 apply to this document.
3.1
Response scale
The evaluator's quantitative expression of the response intensity of the attribute in the form of numbers, words or pictures.
Note 1.In sensory analysis, the response scale is used to collect and record the evaluator's response to the attribute, and this response can be converted into a number for statistical analysis.
Note 2.In most cases, the term "scale" is used equivalent to "response scale".
3.2
Measure (verb)
The process of quantifying attributes.
3.3
Measurement (noun)
Measurement operation.
3.4
Measurements
The value obtained from the measurement operation.
