1 Scope
This part of GB/T 34247 specifies the determination of isobutylene - isoprene rubber (IIR) [commonly known as butyl rubber (IIR)] using the iodometric method

3 Method summary
Under specified conditions, a certain amount of IIR sample is dissolved in carbon tetrachloride, and iodine bromide solution is added thereto to react with it. Unreacted bromination
Iodine by adding an excess of potassium iodide solution with the reaction of iodine. Using sodium thiosulfate standard titration solution titration of the generated iodine, at the same time
Make a blank experiment. The iodine value was calculated and converted to unsaturation by empirical formula.
4 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise specified, only reagents identified as analytical grade and grade 3 water specified in GB/T 6682-2008 are used in the analysis.
4.1 Carbon tetrachloride.
4.2 iodine bromide carbon tetrachloride solution .0.05 mol/L. Weigh about 5.1g iodine bromide, accurate to 1mg, dissolved in 500mL carbon tetrachloride.
Put the solution in a brown reagent bottle and leave it in the light for 3 weeks before use.
4.3 potassium iodide solution mass fraction of 10%. Weigh about 50g of potassium iodide, accurate to 0.01g, dissolved in 450mL water. when using it
Preparation.
4.4 sodium thiosulfate standard titration solution .0.05mol/L. According to the provisions of GB/T 601 preparation and calibration.
4.5 Starch indicator solution .5g/L. Weigh about 0.5g starch, accurate to 0.01g, adding 5mL of water to make a paste; under stirring paste
