This Standard replaces GB/T 5493-1985, Inspection of grain and oilseeds - Methods for determination of varieties and their mixture. The main technical differences between this Standard and GB/T 5493-1985 are as follows. -- Add the inspection method of mixture of grains of different types; -- Add lighting requirements during inspection operations; -- Modify the inspection method of mixture of indica rice, japonica rice and glutinous rice and the identification test method of wheat grain color; -- Modify the content of grain dissecting inspection. This Standard is proposed by the State Administration of Grain. This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 270 on Grain and Oil of Standardization Administration of China. This Standard specifies the reagents, instruments and utensils, lighting requirements, operating procedures and result calculations for grain and oil varieties and their mixture. This Standard applies to the determination of mixture of grains and oils of the same type and different grain forms, grain natures, and grain colors, as well as the inspection of mixture of different types of grain and oils.2 Normative references

6.1 Inspection of appearance features 6.1.1 Inspection of mixture of indica rice, japonica rice and glutinous rice. take 10 g of clean rice, weigh the mass (ma) after husking and milling; pick out the mixed grains of different types according to the relevant classification regulations in GB 1350; weigh the mass (m1). 6.1.2 Inspection of mixture of grains of different colors. according to the provisions of GB/T 5494, weigh the sample mass (mb); at the same time of inspecting the imperfect grains, sort out the mixed grains of different colors according to the mass standards of each grain type; weigh its mass (m2). 6.2 Cutin and silty inspection Observe the grains under transmitted light, or cut the grains horizontally from the middle to observe the cross-section; those with glassy transparent body and translucent body in the grain or section are horny, and those with powdery opaque body are silty. 6.3 Dyeing inspection of glutinous rice and non-glutinous rice After the paddy is husked and whitened, make it into rice samples conforming to the national standard level 3 (GB 1354);7 Result calculations
