This document specifies the format and requirements for the vehicle identification number (VIN) bar-code label. This document applies to a permanent label that can automatically identify the vehicle identification number in the form of a bar code.2 Normative references
The following documents are referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of their content constitutes requirements of this document. For dated references, only the version corresponding to that date is applicable to this document; for undated references, the latest version (including all amendments) is applicable to this document. Terms and definitions determined by GB 16735 and GB/T 25978, as well as the following are applicable to this document. 3.1 bar-code reader A device – generally composed of a non-contact scanner, a decoder and a data converter – used to read bar codes. 3.2 check Compare the size and optical properties of the bar code to specified requirements using machine or manual methods. The vehicle identification number (VIN) bar code shall comply with GB/T 12908. The bar code density and size shall meet the following requirements: -- The width of the narrow unit (X) shall be 0.190 mm ~ 0.317 mm; -- The width-to-narrow ratio (N) shall be 3, and the allowable range shall be 2.8 ~ 3.4; -- The minimum width of the bar code character interval is X; when X < 0.287 mm, the maximum value is 5.3X; when X ≥ 0.287 mm, the maximum value is 1.52 mm; -- The minimum width of the clear area is 10X; -- The minimum height of the bar code is 9.5 mm or 15% of the total length of the bar code symbol (excluding the clear area). 5.3 Readability requirements In order to prevent damage to the label or vehicle surface, a non-contact bar code scanner shall be used to scan the bar code. The bar-code reader shall use a light source in the B633 nm band or visible infrared band. 5.4 Label performance requirements The label shall meet the general performance requirements for labels in GB/T 25978. If the label is a special-purpose label as specified in GB/T 25978, it shall also meet the anti-counterfeiting and anti-tampering requirements for labels in GB/T 25978.6 Bar code verification procedure
6.1 General The following verification is to compare the size and optical properties of the bar code with the specified requirements in the laboratory by machine or manual means. It is not suitable for outdoor verification. The verification process is carried out randomly on each label, rather than testing at the same time. The verification instrument shall be a microscope and a mesh eyepiece micrometer. 6.2 Instrument calibration 6.2.1 Verification instruments shall be calibrated according to the prescribed procedures. 6.2.2 After correct calibration, check the test standard sample of the verification instrument manufacturer. If the calibration result does not meet the error range specified by the instrument manufacturer, recalibrate and recheck. 6.3 Verification ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
