1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements for types, dimensions and tolerances, technical
conditions, inspection and testing of spiral wound gaskets for steel pipe flanges in
petrochemical industry.
This standard applies to the manufacture and acceptance of spiral wound gaskets for
steel pipe flanges which have a nominal pressure PN20 (Class150) ~ PN420
(Class2500), as specified in SH/T 3406 "Steel pipe flanges in petrochemical industry".
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated
documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document;
for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is
applicable to this standard.

3 General requirements
3.1 Gasket type code
3.1.1 Spiral wound gaskets are divided into basic type, outer ring type, inner ring type,
inner and outer ring type.
3.2 Nominal pressure and nominal diameter
4 Construction type, dimensions and tolerances
4.1 Construction types
4.1.1 The basic gasket structure is as shown in Figure 4.1.1.
4.1.2 The structural type of outer ring gasket is as shown in Figure 4.1.2.
4.2 Dimensions
4.2.1 The dimensions of the basic gasket shall comply with the requirements in Table
4.2.1.
4.2.3 The dimensions of outer ring gaskets for steel pipe flanges, which have a nominal
diameter less than or equal to DN600, shall comply with the provisions of Table 4.2.3.
4.2.7 The dimensions of inner ring gaskets for steel pipe flanges, which have a nominal
diameter larger than DN600A series, shall comply with the provisions of Table 4.2.7.
4.2.8 The dimensions of inner ring gaskets for steel pipe flanges, which have a nominal
diameter larger than DN600B series, shall comply with the provisions of Table 4.2.8.
4.3 Tolerances
4.3.1 The gasket's size limit deviation shall comply with the provisions of Table 4.3.1.
4.3.2 The measurement of the inner and outer diameter of the gasket body shall avoid
the welding joints of the steel strip, which takes the arithmetic mean of any two
4.3.5 The thickness of the inner and outer rings shall be the arithmetic mean of any two
measured values, accurate to 0.1 mm.
4.3.6 The inner and outer rings shall be smooth; their unevenness shall be less than 1‰.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 Materials
5.1.1 The metal strip material shall have a quality certificate; each batch of materials
shall be randomly inspected for chemical composition. The thickness of the material
should be 0.15 mm ~ 0.20 mm. The chemical composition and operating temperature
range of the metal strip material shall comply with the requirements of Table 5.1.1.
5.1.4 The surface of the metal strip shall be smooth and clean; no defects such as
roughness, cracks, scratches, rust spots are allowed.
5.1.5 Non-metallic strip materials shall have quality certificates. The thickness of non-
metallic strip materials should be 0.50 mm ~ 0.80 mm. The material and operating
temperature range shall comply with the provisions of Table 5.1.5.
5.1.6 The performance of flexible graphite used for winding shall comply with the
relevant provisions of JB/T 7758.2.
5.1.7 The performance of the polytetrafluoroethylene tape used for winding shall
comply with the relevant provisions of JB/T 6618.
5.2.2 When winding the main body of the gasket, there shall be no less than 3 turns of
metal strips in the initial winding and the final winding; non-metallic strips shall not be
filled between the windings.
5.2.3 After the outer ring gasket is spot welded at the end of the body, 2 ~ 4 turns of
metal strip shall be wound around the outer ring to adjust the gap and positioning when
assembling the outer ring. The empty metal strip is not counted in the outer diameter
value of gasket body.
6 Examination and test
6.1 Examination
6.1.1 Gaskets shall be visually inspected piece by piece. The appearance shall meet the
following requirements.
6.1.2 Gaskets shall be inspected for size in batches. The 100 gaskets of the same type,
specification, material are considered as one batch.
6.2 Test
6.2.1 When any of the following circumstances occurs, the gasket shall undergo type
testing. Type testing includes inspection of size and appearance, as well as performance
testing.
6.2.2 The compression rate, rebound rate, stress relaxation performance and sealing
performance test in the type test shall be carried out in batches. Gaskets of the same
material and the same pressure level are one batch. 3 pieces are randomly selected from
each batch.
6.2.3 The inspection of dimensions and appearance shall comply with the relevant
provisions of Article 6.1 of this standard.
7 Product quality certificate
7.1 Each batch of gaskets produced according to this standard shall have a product
quality certificate.
7.2 The quality certificate shall include the following contents.
8 Marking, tag and packaging
8.1 Marks and tag
8.1.1 The marking of the gasket shall comply with the following requirements.
8.1.2 The marking method shall meet the following requirements.
8.1.3 Product markings. Except for basic gaskets and gaskets with an inner ring whose
nominal diameter is less than DN80, which are marked with labels, other types of
Inner ring, outer ring, and metal strip materials Non-metal strip materials
8.2 Packing
8.2.1 Products shall be packaged separately according to materials, types, specifications;
meanwhile it shall have moisture-proof measures.
8.2.2 The product packing list and quality certificate shall be included in the packaging
box.
