Glass containers—Aerated beverage bottle
1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, mark, package,
transportation and storage of aerated beverage bottle.
This standard is applicable to glass containers for filling carbonated drinks, gas drinks or other
aerated beverages.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions given in GB /T 9987 and the followings are applicable to this document.
3.1
non-parallelism of finish with reference to container base
The different value between the maximum height and the minimum height of the same bottle.
3.2
refillable bottle
New glass bottle shall be designed to be refilled repeatedly.

4.3.3 Blister
4.3.3.1 No opening blister or surface blister is allowed.
4.3.3.2 The maximum diameter of blister in bottle shall be no more than 3.0 mm.
4.3.3.3 The number of blisters with diameters between 1.0 mm and 3.0 mm in each bottle shall not
exceed 3.
4.3.3.4 The number of visible blisters with diameters less than 1.0 mm shall be no more than 5 per
cm2.
4.3.4 Stone
4.3.4.1 The stones greater than 1 mm in diameter is not allowed.
4.3.4.2 The number of stones with diameter between 0.3 mm and 1.0 mm and without cracks shall
not exceed 2.
4.3.4.3 Stones on the sealing surface of bottle is not allowed.
4.3.5 Seam line
4.3.5.1 It shall not be sharp or needling hand feeling.
4.3.5.2 Protruding thickness of outer edge on the finish shall not exceed 0.2 mm.
4.3.5.3 Protruding thickness of Seam line shall not exceed 0.5 mm.
4.3.6 Surface perfection
There shall be no obvious wrinkle, stripe, cold slug, spots, oil patch and any other defects that affects
the appearance quality level seriously.
4.3.7 Inside defect
There shall be no spikes or stuck glass filament inside.
4.3.8 Base defect
Base defects causing standing unstably are not allowed.
4.4 Lead and cadmium release limits
Release limits of lead and cadmium shall be as given in Table 6.

5.1 Physical and chemical properties
5.1.1 Thermal shock resistance
It shall be tested in accordance with the pass test provisions given in GB/T 4547.
5.1.2 Internal pressure resistance
It shall be tested in accordance with the provisions given in GB/T 4546.
5.1.3 Polariscopic stress examination
It shall be tested in accordance with the provisions given in GB/T 4545.
5.1.4 Hydrolytic resistance of the interior surfaces
It shall be tested in accordance with the provisions given in GB/T 4548.
5.1.5 Mechanical shock resistance
It shall be tested in accordance with the pass test provisions given in GB/T 6552. For uncorseted
bottle, the test point shall be located in the middle of bottle. For corseted bottle, the test point shall be
located on the shaller of bottle. Test point shall avoid the seam line.
5.2 Specification and dimension
5.2.1 Brimful capacity
It shall be tested in accordance with the provisions given in GB/T 20858.
5.2.2 Height
The height shall be measured by height calipers or height measurement apparatus.
5.2.3 Verticality tolerance
It shall be tested in accordance with the provisions given in GB/T 8452.
5.2.4 Outer diameter of body
Outer diameter of body shall be measured and the results measured from any position on the same
cross section shall all conform to the requirements specified in clause 4.2.4.
5.2.5 Thickness of body and base of bottle
They shall be measured by thickness gauge.
5.2.6 Thickness ratio of the same base
Both of the thickest point and thinnest point on base of the same bottle shall be measured by
thickness gauge. The ratio of the maximum thickness to the minimum thickness of bottle base is
defined to be the thickness ratio.
5.2.7 Non-parallelism of finish

The difference between the maximum height and the minimum height of the same bottle shall be
measured by height calipers or height measurement apparatus.
5.3 Appearance
The appearance inspection shall be dominated by visual observation. If necessary, it shall be
measured by apparatus such as linear measuring apparatus, special measuring tool, inspection
window, 10X magnifying glass and so on, or it may also be assessed by comparison with the
reference samples.
5.4 Release of lead and cadmium
It shall be tested in accordance with the provisions given in GB/T 21170.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Delivery inspection
6.1.1 Delivery acceptance shall be in accordance with double sampling plan of normal inspection
specified in GB/T 2828.1. If needed, it may be conducted in accordance with the contract or
agreement negotiated by both of the customer and the supplier.
6.1.2 The inspection level and acceptance quality limit of delivered lot shall be as given in Table 7.

6.1.3 Normally, random inspection of hydrolytic resistance of interior surfaces shall be conducted
once a week. In case nonconformity occurs, it shall be deemed as a non-acceptable lot and shall
trace the products produced within one week before the date of sampling.
6.2 Type test
6.2.1 Type test shall be conducted in one of the following circumstances:
a) appraisement for a new product;
b) significant changes of raw material, ingredients or technology;
c) resume normal production after shutdown;
d) normal production, once a year;
e) a significant difference of the results between the delivery inspection and the last type test;
f) requested by state administration for market regulation.
6.2.2 Type test shall be according to provisions of all items specified in clause 4, and shall be
carried out in accordance with the single sampling plan of discrimination levelⅡ in GB/T 2829.
Classification of nonconformities and rejectable quality level (RQL) are shown in Table 8.
86.2.3 All inspected items shall meet the requirements. If not, this type test is failure.
7 Mark, identification, package, transportation and storage
7.1 Mark
Non-refill bottles shall have the character “NR” in 36 pt STSong on the insweep (the length and width
for each word shall be 8 mm×8 mm, and word space shall be 2 mm~3 mm).
7.2 Identification
Each package shall have quality certification or label of conformity with the information as the name
of manufacturer or supplier, product name, capacity, quantity, production date or lot
number, executive standard, name or code of inspector, trademark, and some necessary words
including “glassware”, “fragile”, “handle with care”, and so on.
7.3 Package
Appropriate packing, such as pallet, plastic box, paper box, etc., shall be adopted. Packing shall
guarantee the cleanness and not deteriorate the strength of products.
7.4 Transportation
Transportation shall avoid intensive shakes, and handle with care.
7.5 Storage
The storage place shall be dry, ventilated, free of rain and snow, avoid getting damp. It shall be stored
without oil, acidic or alkaline substances. Stacking height shall be appropriate and not be too high.
