Introduction
This Standard is not equivalent to the American Wood Preservers’ Association AWPA standard
2003 P5-02 Water-borne Wood Preservatives, AWPA 2003 P8-03 Organic Solvent-based Wood
Preservatives, Annex B Composition of Wood Preservatives and Annex C Registration Number
of Wood Preservatives of Australian AS/1604.1 Preservative Treatment Specification Part 1.
Sawn Timber and Logs, ACQ in Japanese Industrial Standard JIS K1570 Wood Preservatives
and so on. The content of effective ingredients in 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.6 and 4.7 of this Standard refers
to AWPA 2003; the content of effective ingredients of ACQ-2, ACQ-3 and ACQ-4 in 4.4 refers to
ACQ-B, ACQ-C and ACQ-D of AWPA 2003, and the content of effective ingredients of ACQ-1
refers to ACQ-1 in JIS K1570. The content of effective ingredients of CuAz-1 and CuAz-2 in 4.5
refers to CBA-A and CA-B of AWPA 2003. Wood preservative oil uses YB/T 5168-2000 standard.
Other arsenic preparations in AWPA P5-02 are rarely used in foreign countries, so the application
effect is generally inferior to that of CCA-C, therefore, it is not included.
This Standard is the domestic standard relating to wood preservatives that is formulated for the
first time. The formulation of the standard lags behind the industry, particularly for water-borne
wood preservatives. The application of organic solvent-based wood preservative is fewer in
domestic at present, some basic research work need to be further improved, it is difficult to include
all the contents of the wood preservatives in a standard, and this Standard only lists the effective
ingredients of organic solvent-based wood preservatives. It is noted that the toxicity of
pentachlorophenol and sodium pentachlorophenate on human is larger, so it is not to be
recommended by this Standard. Before the formulation and revision of analysis methods of new
wood preservatives, technical indicators of organic solvent-based wood preservatives and
technical indicators of solvents, the following measures shall be used. the determination of copper,
chromium and arsenic in wood preservative can use atomic absorption spectrometry; it also can
adopt the titration or other methods in GB/T 50329-2002 Standard for Test Methods of Timber
Structures. The determination of DDAC, BAC, tebuconazole and cyproconazole uses high
pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
Wood Preservatives
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the ratio of effective ingredients of water-borne wood preservative, and
describes the content requirements for the effective ingredients in various forms (solid, paste or
solution). This Standard includes the effective ingredients of organic solvent-based wood insect-
resist agents, organic solvent-based wood preservatives, anti-mildew and anti-blushing agents.
This Standard applies to the production and use of wood preservatives.
2 Normative references
The articles contained in the following documents have become part of this document when they
are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all subsequent modifications (including
all corrections) or revisions made thereafter do not apply to this Standard. However, the parties

versions of these documents may be used. For the undated documents so quoted, the latest
versions (including all modification sheets) apply to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this Standard, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 14019-1992 as well as
the following terms and definitions shall apply.
3.1 Effective ingredients
They are active ingredients in wood preservatives, which can inhibit the growing of wood-
decaying fungus, mold, staining fungi, insects and marine animals in the wood.
4 Water-borne wood preservatives
4.1 Copper, chromium and arsenic (CCA-C)
4.1.1 The composition of CCA-C is shown in Table 1, calculated according to 100% oxide.
as follows.
Copper. copper sulfate;
Hexavalent chromium. potassium dichromate or sodium dichromate, chromium trioxide;
The purity of raw material compounds providing the substances listed in 4.6.1 shall be equal or
greater than 95% according to the calculation of anhydrous substance; the pH value shall be 2.0
~ 3.9; the preservative shall be marked with the total content of ingredients listed in 4.6.1.
4.7 Copper citrate (CC)
4.7.1 The composition of CC is shown in Table 9.
Table 9 Composition of CC %
Effective ingredient Ratio
Copper (calculated by CuO) 62.3
Citric acid 37.7
Bivalent copper and citric acid shall be dissolved in the ammonia liquid, and the weight of
ammonia contained in the treating liquid shall be at least equal to 1.4 times of that of copper oxide.
4.7.2 The content requirements of solid, paste, concentrate or treating liquid are shown in Table
10.
