This standard applies to financial institutions that handle RMB deposit and withdrawal business as well as the whole-point business. 2 Normative references The following documents are essential to the application of this document. GB/T 22364-2008 Paper and board - Determination of resistance-to-bending 3 Terms and definitions The following terms and definitions apply to this document: 3.1 Inappropriate circulated RMB banknote The RMB banknote which is inappropriate for circulation due to damage of appearance, texture, anti-counterfeiting features, discoloration, blurred patterns, changes in size and weight. 3.2 Optical density A common logarithmic value of the ratio of incident light intensity to transmitted light intensity. 3.3 Bending stiffness The force required to bend a RMB banknote sample which is clamped at one 6 Deinking The RMB banknotes which have partial or complete fading of the surface are inappropriate circulated RMB banknotes under one of the following conditions: - A deinking occurs on the surface of the banknote; the deinking area is more than 100 mm2; - There are many deinking places on the surface of the banknote; the accumulated deinking area is more than 80 mm2; - Although the deinking area on the surface of banknote does not exceed the above criteria, one of the important anti-counterfeiting features is severely deinked, which affects the anti-counterfeiting function. 7 Missing The RMB banknote which has surface missing is inappropriate circulated RMB banknote under one of the following conditions: - The banknote surface (excluding 4 corners and security line) is missing, the missing area at one place is more than 10 mm2; or otherwise there is multiple missing places on the surface of banknote, the cumulative missing area is more than 12 mm2 (it is included in the accumulative amount when the missing area is more than 2 mm2); - The banknote has a single missing-corner, the area of missing-corner is more than 20 mm2; or otherwise the banknote has multiple missing-corners, the accumulative area of missing-corners is more than 30 mm2; - The missing security line of banknote is more than 10 mm, or otherwise one of the important anti-counterfeiting features is missing, which affect the anti- counterfeiting function. 8 Paste The RMB banknotes which are affixed with tape, paper, other substances, that cannot be removed without damaging the surface of banknote, are inappropriate circulated RMB banknotes under one of the following conditions: - A paste appears on the surface of banknote; the area of paste is more than 100 mm2; - There are multiple pastes on the surface of banknote; the cumulative area of paste is more than 60 mm2; - Although the area of the paste does not exceed the prescribed criteria, it covers one of the important anti-counterfeiting features, which affect the anti-counterfeiting function. 9 Tear The RMB banknotes which are torn in the surface are inappropriate circulated RMB banknotes under one of the following conditions: - There is a tear in the surface of the banknote; the tear length is more than 10 mm; - There are multiple tears on the surface of banknote, the shortest tear length is more than 3 mm, the cumulative tear length is more than 9 mm. 10 Splicing A RMB banknote which has more than 2 (inclusive) damages, is connected as before through pasting, is inappropriate circulated RMB banknote. 11 Deformation A RMB banknote which has change in shape and size, a deviation between the long side of banknote and the standard specification of more than 2%, or a deviation between the wide side of the banknote and the standard specification of more than 4%, is inappropriate circulated RMB banknote. 12 Scribble The RMB banknotes which have artificial text, pictures, symbols, or other marks are inappropriate circulated RMB banknotes under one of the following conditions: - There is one place of scribble; the scribble area is more than 200 mm2; - There are many places of scribbles; the cumulative scribble area is more than 100 mm2; - Although the scribble area of the banknote surface does not exceed the prescribed criteria, it covers one of the important anti-counterfeiting features, which affects the anti-counterfeiting function. The scribble area in this standard is calculated according to the area of the banknote as enclosed by the connection of the edges of the artificial text, Appendix B (Normative) Testing method of resistance-to-bending of RMB banknote B.1 Testing equipment Instruments: PTI resistance-to-bending tester, L&W resistance-to-bending tester. Standard: Refer to the test of Paper and board - Determination of resistance- to-bending. B.2 Testing environment The test specimen shall be placed in a laboratory with a temperature of 23 ± 1 °C and a relative humidity of 50 ± 2% for more than 4 hours; then tested under these conditions. B.3 Testing method The testing method shall refer to the following steps: a) Turn on the instrument and warm up for 30 minutes; b) Set the bending angle to 15 degrees, the test distance to 1.0 mm, follow the instrument requirements to perform calibration; c) Put in the test specimen. Follow the operating requirements of instrument and the specified sampling points to carry out the resistance-to-bending test.
