The specification of AgCu alloy wire (strip) for
commutators
1 Scope
This standard specifies the product variety and code, technical requirements,
test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, storage of
silver-copper alloy wire (strip).
This standard applies to the production, inspection, acceptance of silver-copper
alloy wire (strip). Silver-copper alloy wire (strip) is used to manufacture silver-
copper commutator. The silver-copper commutator is mainly used in low-power
motors for power tools, household appliances, other industrial appliances.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.
GB/T 228.1 Metallic materials - Tensile testing - Part 1: Method of test at
room temperature
GB/T 4340.1 Metallic materials - Vickers hardness test - Part 1: Test method
GB/T 5121.1 Methods for chemical analysis of copper and copper alloys -
Part 1: Determination of copper content
GB/T 5121.19 Methods for chemical analysis of copper and copper alloys -
Part 19: Determination of silver content

3 Product variety and code
According to the different silver content, the product varieties and product codes
of the silver-copper alloy wire (strip) are as shown in Table 1 and Table 2.
4.4 Chemical composition, mechanical-physical properties
The chemical composition and mechanical-physical properties of the silver-
copper alloy wire (strip) are as specified in Tables 1 and 2, respectively.
4.5 Delivery status
The silver-copper alloy wire (strip) is one piece per coil. The weight of each coil
is not less than 50 kg. It may also be agreed between the supplier and the
purchaser.
5 Test methods
5.1 Appearance
The appearance of silver-copper alloy wire (strip) is visually observed in natural
light.
5.2 Dimension
The diameter of the silver-copper alloy wire is measured by a gauge which has
an accuracy of not less than 0.02 mm. The thickness of the silver-copper alloy
strip is measured by a gauge which has an accuracy of not less than 0.005 mm.
The width is measured by a gauge which has an accuracy of not less than 0.02
mm.
5.3 Chemical composition
5.3.1 The total content of copper and silver shall be determined in accordance
with the provisions of GB/T 5121.1.
5.3.2 The silver content is determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry
according to the provisions of GB/T 5121.19.
5.3.3 The oxygen content is determined according to 3.4 of JB/T 5351-2014. It
is sampled from wire blank.
5.4 Conductivity
According to the provisions of 3.3 of JB/T 5351-2014, determine the
- Supplier’s name, product name:
- Specifications, silver content:
- Batch number, net weight [in kilograms (kg)];
- Date, standard executed by product.
7.1.2 Each coil of silver-copper alloy wire (strip) shall be accompanied by a
certificate of conformity. The certificate includes:
- Supplier’s name, material name (code), specifications;
- Batch number, weight, number of pieces, standard executed;
- Silver content, oxygen content, conductivity, density, hardness;
- Date of inspection, conclusion of inspection;
- Inspector’s seal (or code).
7.2 Packaging
Each coil of silver-copper alloy wire (strip) is wrapped by a soft material, to
prevent bumping of the surface of the material.
7.3 Transportation
During transportation of product, it shall take moisture-proof and rain-proof
measures.
7.4 Storage
The product shall be stored in a dry, ventilated, acid-free indoor environment.
