Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020
“Directives for standardization - Part 1.Rules for the structure and drafting of
standardizing documents”.
This document is identical to ISO 8755.2001 “Commercial road vehicles - 40 mm
drawbar eye - Interchangeability”.
This document adds a clause “Terms and definitions”.
For ease of use, this document has made the following editorial changes.
a) To coordinate with existing standardization documents, the document name has
been changed to “Road vehicles - 40 mm drawbar eye - Interchangeability”;
b) Table notes have been added to Table 3.

1 Scope
This document specifies the requirements for interchangeability of 40 mm drawbar eyes.
This document applies to drawbar eyes between towing vehicles and trailers with a total
mass greater than 3.5 t.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, there are no terms and definitions that need to be
defined.
4 Marking
Drawbar eyes that meet the requirements of this document shall be marked as follows.
a) standard number of this document about drawbar eyes;
b) code for non-graded drawbar eyes, which is D40;
c) code for graded drawbar eyes (see 5.4).

5 Interchangeability of drawbar eyes
5.1 General
The provisions of 5.2 and 5.3 apply to all 40 mm drawbar eyes. The requirements for
the grade of drawbar eyes are shown in 5.4.
5.2 General requirements
D40 drawbar eyes shall match C40 drawbar couplings. The drawbar eye shall not rotate
around the drawbar axis.
NOTE 1.The installation dimensions on the frame of towing vehicles, and the dimensions and
articulation angles of drawbar couplings are shown in ISO 3584.
NOTE 2.The requirements for mechanical interchangeability between towing vehicles and trailers
are shown in ISO 11406 and ISO 11407.
5.3 Dimension requirements for non-graded drawbar eyes
5.3.1 The dimensions of D40 drawbar eyes shall comply with the requirements of
Figure 1.
5.3.2 The dimensions of D40 drawbar eyes with sleeves shall comply with the
requirements of Figure 2 or Figure 3.
5.3.3 The characteristic dimensions of D40 drawbar eyes (see Figure 1) shall comply
with the requirements of Table 1.
5.4 Technical requirements for graded drawbar eyes
5.4.1 Dimensions
The dimensions of drawbar eyes of each grade of D40 shall meet the following
requirements respectively.
