Foreword
This document is drafted in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020
“Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of
standardizing documents”.
This document replaces GB/T 3903.32-2008 “Footwear - Test methods for insoles -
Resistance to stitch tear”. Compared with GB/T 3903.32-2008, except for structural
adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) The rounding-off requirement for the average value of the sample thickness is
added (see 7.2);
b) The test report requirements are changed (see Chapter 8; see Chapter 8 of the 2008
edition).
This document is modified in relation to ISO 20876:2018 “Footwear - Test methods for
insoles - Resistance to stitch tear”.
The technical differences between this document and ISO 20876:2018 and their reasons
are as follows:
--- The normative references GB/T 16825.1 replaces ISO 7500-1 (see 4.4), GB/T
22049 replaces ISO 18454 (see Chapter 5), GB/T 22050 replaces ISO 17709 (see
Chapter 5), these adapt to Chinese technical conditions and help to improve
operability;
--- The allowable deviation of the diameter of the thickness gauge is added (see 4.6),
which is beneficial to the measurement of the thickness gauge;
--- The description of the test process is changed (see 6.3), which is consistent with
the definition of “resistance to stitch tear” in 3.1;
--- The repeated expression “the test result is the average value of 3 values” in the
test results is deleted (see 7.1);
--- The rounding-off requirements of the average value of sample thickness (see 7.2)
are added to improve the operability of judgment and eliminate ambiguity;
--- The content “any details that deviate from the test method of this document” in
the test report is deleted (see Chapter 8); the test report already contains the
content “any deviation from this test method”, thus, the above-mentioned clause
is deleted.
Footwear - Test methods for insoles - Resistance to stitch
tear
1 Scope
This document describes a method for assessing the ability of stitches or metal
attachments of footwear insoles.
This document is applicable to footwear insoles made of various materials and is used
to judge the overall quality of the insole materials, including the case where the insole
is fixed with an adhesive.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain the provisions which, through normative reference in
this document, constitute the essential provisions of this document. For the dated
referenced documents, only the versions with the indicated dates are applicable to this
document; for the undated referenced documents, only the latest version (including all
the amendments) is applicable to this document.

3.1 resistance to stitch tear
The force required to pull a wire ring of a specified size out of a sample of insole
material.
4 Test equipment and materials
4.1 Drill: It shall be equipped with a twist drill, and the diameter of the drill shall be
1.60 mm±0.01 mm.
4.2 Drilling jig: It shall be ensured that the center-to-center spacing of each pair of holes
(see Figure 1) on the sample is 8.0 mm±0.2 mm.
4.3 Steel wire: The length shall be 150 mm and the diameter shall be 0.90 mm±0.01
mm (20 SWG).
On a mandrel with a diameter of 7 mm, a ring with parallel arms of equal length is made
through a force of 1.5 kN~2.0 kN applied to both ends of the steel wire; the arc of the
steel wire ring shall be consistent with the mandrel.
Note: Deformed wires can be reused as long as the unevenness is eliminated along the mandrel.
4.4 Tensile-testing machine: It shall meet the requirements of grade 2 in GB/T 16825.1,
and the moving speed shall be 100 mm/min±20 mm/min. It is advisable to use a tensile-
testing machine that can automatically record the force value or has a pointer for the
maximum force value.
4.5 The accessories of the tensile-testing machine include 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.
4.5.1 Upper clamp: It includes a rigid support plate for mounting the sample, and there
is a rectangular hole on the support plate with a size of (12.0±0.5) mm × (6.0±0.5) mm;
there is a device connected to the force measuring system, which makes the force pass
through the center of the hole and perpendicular to the support plate.
4.5.2 Lower clamp: It includes a device for connecting the wire ring to the drive system;
the two arms of the wire ring are clamped parallel to the two guide holes 8 mm apart
and equidistant from the line of action of the force applied during the test.
This connection is designed to ensure that the plane of the wire ring is parallel to the
long side of the hole when the wire ring is pulled out from the center of the rigid support
plate of the sample during the test.
4.6 Thickness gauge: It shall be placed on a stable base and have its own weight, so that
the presser foot exerts a pressure of 49 kPa±5 kPa1). The thickness gauge shall have a
circular flat presser foot with a diameter of 10.0 mm±0.1 mm. The meter scale shall be
