1 Scope
This standard specifies the testing and evaluation methods for the instant
cooling performance of textiles in contact with the skin.
This standard applies to all kinds of fabrics and their products.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) is applicable to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Contact transient cool feeling
When the skin is in contact with fabrics below its temperature for an instant,
causing rapid loss of heat on the surface of the skin and an instantaneous
drop in temperature, forming a cool feeling by reflecting the temperature-
sensitive nerve endings in the skin to the brain.
4 Principle
Under the specified test environmental conditions, contact the thermal detection
plate with a temperature higher than the specimen with the specimen; measure
the temperature change of the thermal detection plate with time; calculate its
contact cooling coefficient (qmax), which can characterize the performance of
contact transient cool feeling of the sample. The larger the qmax value, the
stronger the skin feels the cooling; the smaller the value, the weaker the skin
feels the cooling.
5 Test equipment
Cool feeling performance tester (see Figure 1), including thermal detection
plate, sample loading platform, automatic calculation and recording device. The
specific requirements are as follows.
6 Standard atmosphere for humidity conditioning and test Perform the humidity conditioning and test for the specimen in the standard
atmosphere as specified by GB/T 6529.

7 Preparation of specimen
Cut 5 representative specimens. The size of each specimen is about 200 mm
× 200 mm. Sampling shall avoid defects and wrinkles that affect the test results.
8 Test procedure
8.1 Set the temperature of the sample loading platform to (20 ± 0.5) °C. Spread
the specimen flat on the sample loading platform, with the fabric surface in
contact with the skin facing up.
8.3 After the temperature of the thermal detection plate reaches the
temperature set in 8.2 and remains stable, cut off the heat source of the thermal
detection plate and quickly place it vertically on the specimen, so that the
surface of the copper plate is in contact with the fabric.
8.4 Determine all other specimens according to the steps 8.1 ~ 8.3.
9 Result calculation
Calculate the average value of qmax of 5 specimens. The result shall be rounded
to two decimal places according to GB/T 8170.
10 Assessment
If necessary, evaluate the instant cool feeling of the sample. When ΔT = 15 °C,
the evaluation index is as shown in Table 1.
