Foreword
This standard is the revision of GB/T 12459-1990 Steel Butt-welding Seamless Pipe
Fittings.
This standard is modified in relation to ASME B 16.9.2001 Factory-Made Wrought
Buttwelding Fittings and is development according to domestic manufacturing conditions and
the original standard.
Compared with ASME Bl6.9.2001, this standard contains the following main
differences.
--Type (seamless), dimension (DN800 and lower) and technical requirements are
basically identical to ASME B 16.9, but adopt different format.
--Dimension ("series" dimensions) of welding end of pipe fittings connected to
"metric pipe" which is usually adopted in China is added;
--Decimal place of specific specifications of "outside diameter at the groove" is
slightly different from that in ASME B 16.9, such as "outside diameter at the groove" of DN20
pipe fitting is "26.7mm" in ASME Bl6.9, but is "26.9mm" herein.
--Symbols, codes, material, manufacturing, heat treatment, inspection, protection,
packaging and product quality certificate are addedo
Compared with GB/T 12459 - 1990, this standard contains the following main
amendments.
--Explanation for symbols of pipe fittings are added;
--Dimension of lapped nipple for flanged connection is added according to ASME
Bl6.9;
--Dimension scope is enlarged from the original DNl5-DN500 up to DN15-DN800.
Dimensions of long radius elbow, Tee, cross Tee, pipe cap and reducing connectors are
enlarged from DNl 5-DN500 up to DN15-DN 800.
--Requirements for materials and manufacturing process are added, requirements for
design and verification are supplemented and technical content, such as test, are amended.
Appendix A and Appendix B attached hereto are informative.

1 Scope
This standard specifies requirements for symbols, codes, dimensions, tolerances,
materials, manufacturing, inspection, test, marking, protection and packaging of butt-welding
seamless pipe fittings made of DN15-DN800 (NPS1/2-NPS24) carbon steel, alloy steel and
stainless steel.

3.1 Symbols
DN--Nominal dimension of metric pipe fittings; it is a non-measured value (see GB/T
1047);
NPS--Nominal size of pipe fittings using inch unit; it is a non-measured value;
A--Distance from the center on one end face of the 90° elbow to another end face
and from the center of 180° elbow to the center on the end face;
B--Distance from the center of 45° elbow to the end face;
C--Distance from the axial line of branch outlet of Tee and cross Tee to the end face
of the center part;
.D-Outside diameter at the groove of elbow, straight Tee, cross Tee and pipe cap;
outside diameter of the groove at the larger end ofreducing fittings;
D1--0utside diameter of groove at the smaller end of reducing fitting;

4 Dimensions and Tolerances
4.1 Standard dimension
4.1.1 Dimension of pipe fittings shall be in accordance with those specified in Figures I to
I 0 and Tables 3 to 12; Outside diameter at the end of pipe fittings have two series, including
series I and series II, the former of which is the series generally adopted internationally.
Classification of wall thickness of seamless steel pipe used to connect with series I pipe
fittings is listed in Appendix B.
4.1.2 For the convenience of international trade, inch dimensions of series I pipe fittings are
listed in Appendix A.
4.1.3 Due to the fact that metric unit and inch unit are not accurately identical, so users must
adopt these two kinds of units separately. Nominal dimension of pipe fittings adopting metric
unit shall be expressed as DN; nominal dimension of pipe fittings adopting inch unit shall be
expressed as NPS; for relations between these two symbols, see Table 2.

4.2 Particular dimension
4.2.1 Where fatigue loading is considered in the application, the purchaser shall provide the
minimum dimension required.
4.2.2 Requirements for the length of lapped nipple are usually determined by the service
condition and connection structure. Therefore, the purchaser must specify long lapped nipple
or short stub end in the order (see note 2 in Table 10).
4.3 Tolerances
Dimension deviation and geometrical tolerance of pipe fittings shall be in accordance
with those specified in Table 13 and Figure 11.
