Compared with GB13432—2004, the major changes of this Standard are as follow. — MODIFY the Standard name; — MODIFY the definition of foods for special dietary uses, and DEFINE the food classifications contained in this Standard (scope); — MODIFY the basic requirements; — MODIFY the part of mandatory labeling requirements; — COMBINE the allowed labeling information with recommended labeling contents, which is modified as the optional labeling information; — MODIFY the content claim requirements of energy and nutrients; — DELETE the comparative claims of energy and nutrients; — MODIFY the language of functional claims of energy and nutrients; — DELETE Appendix A of pervious Standard; — ADD Appendix A -- Classification of food for special dietary use. National Food Safety Standard Food Labeling of Prepackaged Special Diet 1 Scope This Standard applies to food labeling of prepackaged special diet (including nutrition labeling). 2 Terms and Definition Those defined in GB7718 and the following terms and definitions apply to this Standard. 2.1 Food of Special Diet The food which is processed or formulated to meet special physical or physiological condition and (or) to meet the special dietary needs of state of diseases or disorders. The nutrients and (or) other nutrient components of this food are significantly different from the analogous ordinary food. Food classification of food of special diet is listed in Appendix A. 2.2 Nutrients The substances in food, with specific physiological effects, which can maintain the body's growth; development; activity; reproduction and normal metabolic needs, including protein; fat; carbohydrates; minerals and vitamins. 2.3 Nutrient Components The nutrients in food and other food ingredients with nutrients (or) physiological functions. 2.4 Recommended Intake The intake-level of nutrients which can meet the majority individuals’ needs in certain particular groups of gender, age or physical condition. 2.5 Adequate Intake It is a safe intake-level of nutrients. The intake of certain nutrients by healthy claims in GB 28050, it shall provide the basis of relevant terms of functional claims used by other countries and (or) international organization. Appendix A Classification of Food of Special Diet Classification of food of special diet mainly includes. a) Infant and young children formula food. 1) Infant formula food 2) Older infant and young children formula food 3) Infant formula food for special medical purposes b) Infant and young children supplementary food. 1) Infant and young children cereal supplementary food 2) Infant and young children caned supplementary food c) Formula food for special medical purposes (except for the varieties of infant formula food for special medical purposes); d) Other food of special diet except for the above classifications (including supplements of food supplementary nutrition, sports nutritional food, and food of special diet in accordance with the corresponding national standards).
