This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 3142-1982 "Lubricant Bearing Capacity Measurement Method (Four Ball Method)".
Compared with GB/T 3142-1982, this standard has the following technical changes as follows.
---The unit of measurement adopts the International System of Units.
--- Added Chapter 2 normative references.
--- Move the compensation line of the four ball machine of Figure 1 in GB/T 3142-1982 to Appendix B.
--- Correct the expression error in GB/T 3142-1982, and change "5%" in 3.4 and 8.9 to "(1 5%)".
--- 3.6 adds the expression of P in the formula and describes the lever type four-ball machine.
A detailed description of the reagents is added to --5.1.
--- 5.2 increases the requirements on the material and hardness of the test steel ball.
--- Added a detailed description of the instrument in Chapter 6.
--- Expand the load range of the four-ball machine to "59N~9810N". Corresponding changes have been made in 6.1, and the load level is increased in Table 1.
At level 23, the corresponding load correction sum data is added in Table 4.

Applicability.
1 Scope
This standard specifies methods for determining the bearing capacity of lubricants using a four-ball extreme pressure tester, including maximum cardless bite load (PB), sintering.
Determination of load (PD) and comprehensive wear value (ZMZ).
This standard applies to lubricants. In practical applications, different evaluation indicators can be selected according to the different uses of the lubricant.
