1 Scope

This Part specifies the indoor test methods for clamping force of fastener. This Part is applicable to the fastening systems of high-speed railway.

2 Sign

The following signs are applicable to this Document. d: the vertical displacement of the sleeper relative to the rail, in millimeters (mm); ms: the mass of the sleeper or part of the sleeper used for testing and the fastening components assembled thereon, in kilograms (kg); mf: the mass of the reinforcement frame supported by the sleeper, in kilograms (kg); P: vertical force acting on the rail or sleeper, in kilonewtons (kN); P0: Just offset the clamping force, the vertical force when the rail has zero displacement, in kilonewtons (kN); P1: The vertical force acting on the rail or sleeper when the average reading of the displacement sensor is zero, in kilonewtons (kN).

3 Principles

The clamping force of the fastener is determined by measuring the force that disengages the rail from the rail bearing surface.

4 Test Equipment

4.1 Rail A section of short rail with a length of about 0.5m, whose cross-section is the same as that used for the assembly of the fastener to be tested or for the fatigue performance test of the assembly. There shall be no peeling off the rails, and no floating rust on the surface. 4.2 Loading device The device with loading rate of 9kN/min ~ 11kN/min, static loading up to 50kN for applying vertical loads. For the reference test method, the load is applied to the rail; for the alternative test method, the load is applied to the reinforcement frame supported on the sleeper on the shelf. 4.3 Displacement sensor An instrument for measuring the vertical displacement of the rail relative to the sleeper, with an indication error of 0.01 mm. 4.4 Load cells An instrument for measuring the load applied to the rail or to the reinforcement frame supporting the sleeper, with an accuracy class of 0.5. 4.5 Recording device The device that is capable of digitally recording and drawing load-displacement curves during the test, the sampling frequency shall be no lower than 50 Hz. 4.6 Steel gasket The size of the steel spacer is 25 mm × 25 mm, and the thickness is 0.25 mm ± 0.05 mm.

5 Test Pieces

5.1 Sleeper The sleepers with fastener embedded parts or reserved bolt holes, 1/2 sleepers or slab rail unit (all described as sleepers in this test method). The bearing surfaces of sleepers shall not be reconditioned for testing. 5.2 Fastener Complete set of fasteners including all components.
