Foreword

GB/T 6995 " Markings for electric wires and cables" is divided into five parts. - Part 1.General requirements; - Part 2.Standard colours; - Part 3.Identifications of cables and wires; - Part 4.Identifications of insulated conductors of cables and wires for electrical appliances and equipments; - Part 5.Identifications of insulated cores of power cables. This Part is part 1 of GB/T 6995. This Part replaces GB 6995.1-1986 “Markings for electric cables and wires - Part 1. General requirements”. Compared with GB 6995.1-1986, the main changes of this Part are as follows. - Delete the chapter “Objective” deleted (Chapter 2 of previous edition); - Add the chapter “Normative References” (see Chapter 2); - The chapter headline of “General Requirements” is modified to “Requirements for colour and number identification” (Chapter 4 of previous edition; Chapter 4 of this edition); - Adjust the chapter and clause numbers of “Coining Markings” (4.3 of previous edition; 5.2 of this edition); - Adjust the chapter and clause numbers of “Marking line or marking strip” (4.4 of previous edition; Chapter 6 of this edition); - Add the relevant content of insulated core colour identification (4.1.1 of this edition); - Add the chapter “Printed Marks” (see Chapter 5); - Add the relevant content of ink printed marking (5.1 of this edition); - Add the relevant content of laser printed marking (5.3 of this edition); - Adjust the chapter and clause numbers of “Test method” (Chapter 5 of previous edition; Chapter 7 of this edition). 1 Scope

This Part of GB/T 6995 is applicable to the identification markings for electrical appliance and equipment wires/cables, electric cables and telecommunication cables, etc., as well as the insulated cores. This Part shall be used together with Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 and Part 5 of GB/T 6995.

2 Normative references

The following documents contain the provisions which, through reference in this Part of GB/T 6995, become the provisions of this Standard. For dated references, their subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents are applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest versions apply to this Part. 3 Definitions

For the purposes of this Part, the following definitions apply. 3.1 Wire and Cable Identification The manufacturer, product trademark, model, specification and function, etc. are identified with markings such as word, letter, symbol and colour. 3.2 Core Identification The function that different insulated cores of multicore cables are differentiated or insulated cores are identified with Arabic numerals, colours (single-colour or mixed- colours).

4 Requirements for colour and number identification

4.1 Colour Identification 4.1.1 Requirements Marking colours shall be confirmed to comply with or to be near to a colour specified in GB/T 6995.2-2008. 4.1.2 Clarity Marking colours shall be easy to identify or recognize. 4.1.3 Rubbing resistance Markings shall be rubbing resistant; the colour shall basically remain the same after being rubbed. 4.2 Number Identification

5 Printed marking

5.1 Ink Printed Marking 5.1.1 Clarity Ink printed markings shall be clear and legible. 5.2 Coining Marking 5.2.1 Type Coining marking shall adopt letterpress or gravure type to coin on the carrier directly. 5.2.2 Clarity Words on the coining marking shall be clear and legible. 5.3 Laser Printed Marking

6 Marking line or marking strip

6.1.1 Marking line Marking line is adopted to identify wires and cables; the colour may adopt single-colour or mixed-colours. 6.1.2 Marking strip It refers to the strip on which word, letter or symbol, etc. are printed; it indicates information such as the wires and cables’ manufacture, product voltage grade, model, specification and trademark.

7 Test methods

7.1 The clarity of marking shall be checked by eyes; where the surface of test sample is contaminated and beyond recognition, it can be scrubbed with cotton fabric immersed in the gasoline or other appropriate solvent; or the clarity can be checked by cutting sample with clean blade. ......
