measurement and test methods, inspection rules and marking, packaging,
transportation and storage, of plywood for general uses.
This standard applies to the plywood for general use, AND it is not applicable
to the core board, veneer laminated timber, or other plywood having different
structures and special performance requirements.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this Standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The following definitions and definitions as defined in GB/T 18259-2009 apply
to this document. For ease of use, some of the terms and definitions as defined
in GB/T 18259-2009 are listed below again.
3.1
Class I plywood
It refers to the weather fastness plywood for outdoor use which can pass
the boiling test.
3.2
Class II plywood
It refers to the water-resistant plywood for wet conditions which can pass
the 63 °C ± 3 °C hot water immersion test.
3.3
Class III plywood
It refers to the non-moisture resistant plywood for dry conditions which can
pass the 20 °C ± 3 °C cold water immersion test.
3.4
Plywood tree species
Plywood panel tree species is this plywood tree species.
4 Classification
4.1 In accordance with the environment of use, it is divided into the following.
4.2 In accordance with the surface processing conditions, it is divided into the
following.
5 Requirements
5.1 Specifications dimensions and their deviations
5.1.1 Specifications dimensions
5.1.2 Dimensional deviation
5.1.2.1 Plywood length and width deviation. ± 1.5 mm/m, maximum ± 3.5 mm.
5.2 Appearance quality
5.2.1 Grading
5.2.1.1 In accordance with the quantity and range of the visible material
defects and processing defects on the finished panel, the plywood is divided
Nominal thickness
5.2.1.2 In accordance with user needs, it may produce the plywood which is
composed of the panels and back plates of different grades.
5.2.2 Allowable defects
5.2.3 Panel splicing
5.2.3.1 As for the excellent grade panel having a panel width within 1220 mm,
the panel shall be an individual panel OR two veneers spliced at appropriate
center of the panel, AND the splicing joint shall be tight. When the excellent
grade panel is spliced, the color shall be appropriately matched AND the
texture shall be similar.
5.2.4 Repair
5.2.4.1 As for such defects as dead knot, hole, crack, and so on, they shall be
filled with putty AND then sanded smooth for repair.
5.3 Physical and chemical properties
5.3.1 Moisture content
The moisture content of plywood shall be in accordance with Table 6.
5.3.2 Adhesive strength
5.3.2.1 The adhesive strength index value of the plywood shall comply with the
provisions of Table 7.
5.3.2.2 The adhesive strength index value of the plywood which is made by
different tree species shall be taken as the minimum index value of the
adhesive strength of all tree species.
5.3.3 Impregnation stripping
When the direction of the adjacent veneer texture of the plywood is same, it
shall be subjected to impregnation stripping test.
The accumulated stripping length at each side of the same glue layer of each
sample shall not exceed 25 mm.
5.3.5 Formaldehyde emission
In accordance with the provisions of GB 18580.
5.4 Other technical requirements
5.4.1 Usually the wood texture of the adjacent two layers of veneers shall be
basically vertical to each other.
5.4.2 The veneers of the symmetrical layers on both sides of the center layer
shall be of the same thickness, the same tree species or similar tree species
with the same physical properties, the same production method (i.e., all of
which is rotary cut or sliced), AND meanwhile the wood texture configuration
direction shall also be same.
5.4.9 The inner veneer of the plywood may include spliced or non-spliced
veneer of any width.
6 Measurement and test methods
6.1 Specification dimension measurement
6.1.1 Gauge
Gages include.
6.1.2 Measurement of plate length, width and thickness
In accordance with the relevant provisions of GB/T 19367-2009.
6.1.3 Measurement of perpendicularity
In accordance with the relevant provisions of GB/T 19367-2009.
6.2 Sampling and dimension requirements
6.2.2 Sample sawing
6.2.2.1 From each of the plywood for testing, CUT three 600 mm × 600 mm
samples in accordance with Figure 1.
6.3 Test methods
6.3.1 Appearance quality
6.3.1.1 USE visual inspection or steel plate (accuracy 0.1 mm) to measure the
appearance defects of the plywood.
6.3.2 Moisture content
In accordance with the provisions of clause 4.3 in GB/T 17657-2013.
6.3.3 Adhesive strength
In accordance with the provisions of clause 4.17 in GB/T 17657-2013.
As for the plywood for which the thickness of the panel (thickness of the veneer
before the adhesive compression) is greater than 1 mm, it shall use the type A
sample size; as for the plywood for which the thickness of the panel is less
than 1 mm (inclusive), it shall use the type B sample size.
6.3.4 Impregnation stripping
In accordance with the provisions of clause 4.19 in GB/T 17657-2013.
6.3.5 Static flexural strength and elastic modulus
In accordance with the provisions of clause 4.7 in GB/T 17657-2013.
6.3.6 Formaldehyde emission
In accordance with the provisions of GB/T 18580.
7 Inspection rules
7.1 Classification of inspections
7.1.1 Product inspection is divided into exit-factory inspection and type
inspection.
7.1.2 The exit-factory inspection includes the following items.
7.1.3 In addition to all the exit-factory inspection items, the type inspection also
includes the impregnation peeling, static flexural strength and elastic modulus
inspection. A type inspection shall be carried out in any of the following cases.
7.2 Sampling plan
7.2.1 Appearance quality inspection
It uses the once sampling plan of the general inspection level II and
acceptance quality level (AQL) 4.0 as specified in GB/T 2828.1-2012, as
shown in Table 10.
7.3 Judgement rules
7.4 Comprehensive judgment
When the appearance quality, specification dimension, its deviation, and
physical and chemical properties of the sample comply with the corresponding
grade requirements, this batch of product is judged as qualified; otherwise it
will be degraded OR judged as disqualified.
7.5 Metering of products
Plywood shall be calculated in cubic meters, AND its tolerances shall not be
taken into account. When measuring and calculating an individual plywood it
may be accurate to 0.00001 m3; when calculating a batch of plywood, it may
be accurate to 0.001 m3.
8 Marking, packaging, transportation and storage
8.1 Marking
8.2 Packaging
Products shall be respectively and appropriately packaged based on different
types and specifications. Each package shall be accompanied by a test label
indicating the name of the product, panel and core plate tree species and
thickness, class, grade, manufacturer name, trade mark, dimension, quantity,
product standard number, and formaldehyde release limit marking.
8.3 Transportation and storage
In the transportation and storage process of the product, it shall pay attention
to moisture proof, rain proof, sun exposure proof, and anti-deformation.
