Foreword
GB/T 4897 Particleboard is divided into 7 parts.
— Part 1. General requirements for all board types;
— Part 2. Requirements for general purpose boards for use in dry conditions;
— Part 3. Requirements for boards for interior fitments (including furniture) for
use in dry conditions;
— Part 4. Requirements for load-bearing boards for use in dry conditions;
— Part 5. Requirements for load-bearing boards for use in humid conditions;
— Part 6. Requirements for heavy-duty load-bearing boards for use in dry
conditions;
— Part 7. Requirements for heavy-duty load-bearing boards for use in humid
conditions.
This Part is part 3 of GB/T 4897 Particleboard.
This Part is not equivalent to European Standard EN 312-2.1997 Particleboard-Part
3. Requirements for boards for interior fitments (including furniture) for use in dry
conditions. Except for adding 2 h water-absorption thickness swelling rate, screw
holding force, and limitation requirement of formaldehyde emission, the
physiochemical performance indexes are the same as that of EN 312-2. Inspection
items of size-change and sand content are not listed in this Part.
This Part replaces the corresponding part of GB/T 4897-1992 Particleboard.
Compared with the previous standard (GB/T 4897-1992), the important technical
change in this Standard is to divide the previous standard into 7 parts, in which, the
“Requirements for load-bearing boards for use in humid conditions” and
“Requirements for heavy-duty load-bearing boards for use in humid conditions” are
the newly-added contents. This Part is used for furniture and interior fitments.
This Part was proposed by State Forestry Administration.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on
Wood-based Panels Standardization.
Responsible drafting organizations of this Part. Research Institute of Wood Industry,
and Chinese Academy of Forestry.
Participating drafting organizations of this Part. Beijing Timber Mills, and Hebei
Golden Sunbird Panel Co., Ltd.
Main drafters of this Part. Chen Shiying, Long Ling, Zheng Fengshan, and Zhang
Zhanhao.
This Part was first-time released in February 1985, and first-time revised in August
1992. This is the second revision.
This Part shall be interpreted by National Technical Committee on Wood-based
Panels Standardization.
Attachment ‐ Amendment of GB/T 4897.3‐2003
"Particleboard - Part 3. Requirements for boards for interior
fitments (including furniture) for use in dry conditions"
This Amendment was approved by Standardization Administration of the People’s
Republic of China and implemented on August 31th, 2009.
The content in “Particleboard - Part 3. Requirements for boards for interior fitments
(including furniture) for use in dry conditions” is changed as follows.
In 3.4 of GB/T 4897.3-2003, “screw holding force. For the boards of which the
thickness is ≥16 mm, determine the screw holding force. The screw holding force of
board’s surface is ≥1100 N; the screw holding force of board’s edge is ≥700 N.” IS
CHANGED INTO “screw holding force. For the boards of which the thickness is ≥16
mm, determine the screw holding force. The screw holding force of board’s surface
is ≥900 N; the screw holding force of board’s edge is ≥600 N. If the consumers need
higher screw holding force, they can negotiate with particleboard’s manufacturer.”
