Foreword
This Standard replaces GB/T 9266-1988 "Determination of scrub resistance of
film of architectural paints and coatings".
Compared with GB/T 9266-1988, the main technical differences in this
Standard are as follows.
- the pH of the scrubbing medium is specified as 9.5 ~ 11.0 in this Standard,
the pH of the scrubbing medium is specified as 9.5 ~ 10.0 in the previous
edition;
- the substrate is specified as non-asbestos fiber cement board in this
Standard, the substrate is specified as glass plate in the previous edition;
- two models are specified for parallel testing in this Standard, three models
are specified for parallel testing in the previous edition;
- modified the preparation method of the test board;
- added the provision that pre-drip about 2mL of scrubbing medium in the
sample test area before the test;
- modified the method of result assessment. the test end point in this
Standard is the number of times of scrubbing until the specified number
of times the coating is damaged until the substrate is exposed or the
coating is just damaged to expose the substrate, the number of times of
scrubbing in the previous edition is specified till whether the coating is
exposed to the specified number of times to reveal the color of the primer.
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
on Paints and Pigments of Standardization Administration of China.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the method for determining the scrub resistance of
architectural coatings that can make flat coatings.
2 Normative references

subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to
this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these

3 Instruments and materials
3.1 Scrub resistance tester
As shown in Figure 1.It is an apparatus for enabling a brush to reciprocate
linearly on the surface of a coating of a test sample to wash it.
3.2 Brush
On a 90mm × 38mm × 25mm hardwood slab (or plastic plate), evenly make
(60±1) small holes with a diameter of about 3mm. Plant black pig brown
vertically in the hole. Cut at right angles to the hair. The hair length is about
19mm.
4 Sampling
According to GB/T 3186, take a representative sample of the testing product.
5 Preparation of test board
5.1 Substrate
Unless otherwise specified or agreed, the substrate shall be a non-asbestos
fiber cement slab conforming to the NAF H V-class in JC/T 412.1-2006, and
shall be flat and free of deformation. The size is 430mm × 150mm × (3~6) mm.
5.3 Drying and conditioning
Unless otherwise specified or agreed, the painted test board shall be dried for
7d under the conditions specified in GB/T 9278.
6 Operation steps
6.1 Experimental environmental conditions
Carry out the test at a temperature of (23±2)°C unless otherwise specified or
agreed.
6.2 Determination
6.3 Test board inspection
Check the coating with an intermediate length of 100mm in the test board under
scattered sunlight. Observe whether it is damaged or not to expose the
substrate.
6.4 Use two test boards to perform the parallel test of the same sample.
7 Result assessment
7.1 Scrub to the prescribed number of times. When at least one of the two
test boards is not damaged to expose the substrate, it shall be assessed as
“passing”.
