Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T
1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 714-2008 “Structural steel for bridge”. As
compared with GB/T 714-2008, the main technical changes are as follows.
- INCREASE the thickness range to 150 mm;
- ADD the terms and definitions (SEE Chapter 3);
- CANCEL the Q235q steel designation (SEE 2008 version);
- Based on the different delivery status, respectively SPECIFY the chemical
compositions of the steel of different designations;
- CONTROL stricter the P, S and N element in the chemical composition,
and ADD the requirements of H element (SEE Table 1 ~ Table 5);
- ADD the technical requirements for the quality class F of Q420q and
above designation steel (SEE Table 1, Table 3, Table 4, Table 5, Table
8);
- CHANGE the defective part of the strip which shall not exceed 8% of the
total length of each coil of strip into not exceeding 6%;
- ADD the yield strength ratio of the recommended steels in Appendix B
(informative);
- ADD Appendix C (informative) for the guidance of the weathering
resistance assessment for bridge steels.
This standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Steel Standardization
Technical Committee (SAC/TC 183).

Structural steel for bridges
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, the designation presentation
methods, the order content, dimensions, shape, mass and allowable
tolerances, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging,
marking and quality certificates of the structural steel for bridge.
This standard is applicable to the structural steel sheets of the thickness not
more than 150 mm, the structural steel strips and shear steel sheets of the
thickness not more than 25.4 mm for bridges, AND the structural steel of the
thickness not more than 40 mm for bridges.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Normalizing
It refers to the heat treatment process in which the heated and austenitized
steel is cooled in the air or other media to obtain the target steel mainly
containing pearlite.
3.2
Thermomechanical rolling
It refers to, within the certain temperature range, the rolling process for final
deformation, after which the materials can be subjected to accelerated
cooling and tempering treatment, resulting in that the material properties
and conditions cannot be obtained or reproduced only by heat treatment.
4 Designation presentation method
The designation of the steel is composed of the Chinese phonetic alphabet
representing the yield strength, the specified minimum yield strength value, the
first letter of the Chinese phonetic alphabet of the bridge character, the quality
grade symbol, and so on.
5 Order content
When ordering, the buyer shall provide the following information in the contract
or order.
6 Size, shape, mass and allowable deviation
6.1 The size, shape, mass and allowable deviation of steel sheet shall comply
with the provisions of GB/T 709.
6.2 The size, shape, mass and allowable deviation of steel strip and its cut
sheet shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 709.
7 Technical requirements
7.1 Designation and chemical composition
7.1.1 The designation and chemical composition of steel at different delivery
status (melting analysis) shall comply with the provisions of Table 1 ~ Table 5.
7.1.2 The carbon equivalent value (CEV) of the steel of different designations
shall comply with the requirements in Table 6.
7.4 Mechanical properties
7.4.1 The mechanical properties of steel shall comply with the requirements in
Table 8.

7.4.3 As for the steel sheet not less than 12 mm of thickness, the Charpy
(V-notch) impact test shall be conducted on the auxiliary sample.
7.7 Non-destructive testing
As for the single-rolled steel sheet of the thickness more than 20 mm, it shall
be subjected to the ultrasonic testing in accordance with the standard GB/T
2970, AND the qualified level shall be not less than level II. The single-rolled
steel sheet and other steel materials of other thickness, based on the
agreement between the supplier and the buyer, they can also be subjected to
the non-destructive testing, AND the test standards and level shall be defined
in the agreement or contract.
7.8 Other requirements
In accordance with the agreement between supplier and buyer, the steel can
also be subjected to the inspection of other items. As for the atmospheric
corrosion resistance performance of the weathering bridge steel, SEE
Appendix C.
8 Test methods
8.1 The test methods of the chemical composition of steel shall comply with
the provisions of GB/T 223.5, GB/T 223.12, GB/T 223.14, GB/T 223.19, GB/T
223.23, GB/T 223.26, GB/T 223.62, GB/T 223.63, GB/T 223.64, GB/T 223.72,
GB/T 223.78, GB/T 223.79, GB/T 223.81, GB/T 223.82, GB/T 223.84, GB/T
223.85, GB/T 223.86, GB/T 4336, GB/T 20123, GB/T 20124, and GB/T 20125.
8.2 The inspection items, sampling quantity, sampling method and test method
of steel shall comply with the provisions in Table 10.
9 Inspection rules
9.1 Inspection and acceptance
The inspection and acceptance of the steel products shall be conducted by the
technical supervision department of the supplier.
9.2 Batching
9.3 Re-inspection and judgement rules
9.3.1 When the impact test results of steel do not comply with the requirements
of 7.4.4, the sampled steel shall not be accepted; RE-TAKE another two
sample products from the remaining portion of this test unit, respectively TAKE
a group of 3 samples from each product, AND the test results of these two
groups of sample shall be qualified; otherwise this batch of steel shall be
rejected.
9.4 Rounding off of mechanical properties and chemical composition
test results
10 Packaging, marking and quality certificate
The packaging, marking and quality certificate of steel shall comply with the
provisions of GB/T 247 or GB/T 2101.
