Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020
“Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of
standardizing documents”.
This Standard replaces GB/T 5231-2012 “Designation and chemical composition of
wrought copper and copper alloys”. In this Standard, 213 designations in GB/T 5231-
2012 are kept, 133 designations are added, 346 designations in total. Compared with
GB/T 5231-2012, in addition to structural and editorial changes, the main technical
changes in this Standard are as follows:
a) Add GB/T 29091 as a normative reference (see Chapter 2 of this Edition);
b) Add that “the naming method of the designations and codes of wrought copper
and copper alloys shall be carried out according to the provisions of GB/T 29091”
(see Chapter 4 of this Edition);
c) Delete that "The sum of impurities is the sum of all impurity elements other than
the main components, mainly Ag, As, Bi, Cd, Co, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, O, P, Pb, S, Sb,
Se, Si, Sn, Te, Zn and other elements” (see 2.3 of Edition 2012);
d) Delete that "When copper or zinc is the allowance element, the difference between
all the analyzed elements and 100% may be taken" (see 2.4 of Edition 2012);
e) Add that "The sum of the elements listed in 'Cu+' is the minimum limit" (see 5.2
of this Edition); Add that "'The sum of the elements listed' means the sum of the
elemental contents and allowances for which limit values are specified." (see 5.3
of this Edition);
f) Add that "The rounding of numerical values in Tables 1 to 5 shall be carried out
in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 8170. The rounding digits of each
element shall be consistent with the limit digits specified in Tables 1 to 5. The
rounding value comparison method shall be used for judgment" (see 5.5 of this
Edition);
