(see Figure 2 of Edition 2016);
- Delete the requirement for the lower edge of 0.8 m in the picture in the UFA feature
(see Figure 3 of Edition 2016);
- Delete the description that the product is not too big, heavy and safe and can be
placed on a 0.8m high insulation table for testing (see 7.2 of Edition 2016);
- Add the requirement to use common mode absorbing devices to decouple cables
(see 7.4 of this Edition);
- Delete the upper limit requirement of the general test level frequency range (see
5.1 of Edition 2016);
- Change the content of field calibration, changing "field calibration" to "level
setting" (see 6.3 of this Edition; 6.2 of Edition 2016).
This document identically adopts IEC 61000-4-3.2020 "Electromagnetic compatibility
(EMC) - Part 4-3.Testing and measurement techniques - Radiated, radio-frequency,
electromagnetic field immunity test".
This document has made the following minimal editorial changes.
- To coordinate with existing standards, the name of the standard is changed to
"Electromagnetic compatibility - Testing and measurement techniques - Part 3.

3.1 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in IEC 60050-161
and the following apply.

amplitude modulation; AM
modulation in which the amplitude of a periodic carrier is a given function, generally
linear, of the instantaneous values of the modulating signal
4 General
Electronic equipment can, in some manner, be affected by electromagnetic radiation.
This radiation is frequently generated by various sources, such as small hand-held radio
transceivers, fixed-station radio and television transmitters, vehicle radio transmitters
and industrial electromagnetic sources. Many of these services use modulation
techniques with a nonconstant envelope.
5 Test levels and frequency ranges
5.1 Selection of test level
This document does not suggest that a single test level is applicable over the entire
frequency range. The product committees shall select the frequency range(s) to be
tested as well as the appropriate test level(s). See Annex E giving guidance for product
committees on the selection of test levels.
5.2 Test frequency ranges
This document defines testing in the frequency range above 80 MHz, limited only by
the capability of the test instrumentation.
6 Test equipment
6.1 Test instrumentation
The following types of test equipment are recommended.
- Anechoic chamber.
- EMI filters.
- RF signal generator(s).
- Power amplifiers.
- Field generating antennas.
- Isotropic field sensor.
- Power measurement device for the forward power. a directional coupler and a
power meter may be used, or a forward power detector or monitor could be
inserted between amplifier and antenna.
6.2 Description of the test facility
Because of the magnitude of the field strengths generated, the tests shall be made in a
shielded enclosure in order to comply with various national and international laws
prohibiting interference with radio communications.
7 Test setup
7.1 General
All testing of equipment shall be performed in a configuration as close as possible
to actual installation conditions.
7.2 Arrangement of table-top equipment
The equipment to be tested is placed in the test facility on a non-conductive table
within the UFA.
8 Test procedure
8.1 General
The test procedure includes.
- test level, frequency range(s) and test modulation;
- the verification of the laboratory reference conditions, including a pre-check of the
generated field strength.
8.2 Laboratory reference conditions
8.2.1 General
In order to minimize the effect of environmental parameters on test results, the test shall
be carried out in climatic and electromagnetic reference conditions as specified in 8.2.2
and 8.2.3.
9 Evaluation of test results
The test results shall be classified in terms of the loss of function or degradation of
performance of the equipment under test, relative to a performance level defined by its
manufacturer or the requestor of the test or agreed between the manufacturer and the
purchaser of the product.
