1 Scope

This standard specifies the basic requirements for the symbols and positions of the controls, indicators and tell-tales AND the tell-tale display colors of motor vehicles. This standard applies to category M and N motor vehicles. This standard does not apply to the controls, indicators and tell-tales which are specially provided for electric vehicles.

2 Normative references

The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) are applicable to this Standard. 3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 4782 and the following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. 3.1 Control It refers to a component that is manually operated by the driver to change the working condition or function of the vehicle or a device of the vehicle. 3.2 Indicator It refers to the device that displays the operating conditions of the vehicle and its components with the physical characteristic amplitudes (e.g., a scale value or a digital display, etc.). 3.3 Tell-tale It refers to an optical signal that, when lit, indicates the activation of a device on the vehicle, OR the normality or failure of a function or condition of the vehicle, OR a certain malfunction of the vehicle. 3.4 Symbol It refers to the graphics used to identify the controls, indicators and tell-tales. 3.5 Similar symbol It refers to the graphics that are proportional to the symbols as defined in 3.4.

4 Requirements

4.1 Basic requirements 4.1.1 If the vehicle is equipped with the controls, indicators and tell-tales as listed in 5.1, the corresponding symbols are mandatory AND shall be identified. The symbols shall comply with all the provisions of 5.1. 4.1.2 If the vehicle is equipped with the controls, indicators and tell-tales as listed in 5.2, the corresponding symbols are non-mandatory AND may be identified. If identified, the symbols shall comply with all the provisions of 5.2. 4.1.3 If the vehicle is equipped with other controls, indicators and tell-tales than those listed in Chapter 5, the corresponding symbols may not be identified. However, if identified, it is recommended to use the corresponding symbols in ISO 2575; if using the self-designed symbols, they shall comply with the principles of Appendix B. 4.1.8 The multifunctional controls shall have the corresponding symbols of their functions. 4.1.9 The combination of the controls, indicators and tell-tales of same functions may share one symbol. 4.1.10 The graphic texts for other purposes on the vehicle shall not be confused with the symbols as specified in this standard. 4.1.11 All the symbols for the controls, indicators and tell-tales as identified on the vehicles in accordance with the provisions of 5.1 and 5.2 shall be stated in the vehicle instruction manual. 4.1.12 The symbols as specified in this standard are allowed to be modified under the following conditions; during modification, it shall follow the principles of Appendix B to avoid changing the essential elements of the symbols OR affecting the identification at the time of use. - ADJUST such details as the line thickness, the gap, the graphic proportion, the arc curvature, and advance angle; - COLOR the symbol contours; ADJUST the dotted & solid nature of symbol; MAKE coloring (except for those explicitly prohibited in the standard). 4.1.13 The common space for displaying a variety of information shall comply with the following requirements. 4.2 Color of tell-tale symbols 4.2.1 As for the tell-tale symbols given in 5.1 and 5.2 of this standard, except in accordance with the colors specified in their respective provisions, it is allowed to use the other colors as specified in 4.2.2 to express the different working conditions or meanings based on different functional requirements. 4.2.2 Meaning of color. 4.3 Symbol position 4.3.1 The symbol as specified in this standard shall ensure that it is identifiable by the driver at the corresponding position. 4.3.2 The symbols of the controls, indicators and tell-tales shall be located above them or adjacent to them. As for the multifunctional controls, it is not required to make the symbol adjacent BUT they shall be as close as possible.

5 Symbol type and display color of tell-tale

5.1 Identification of mandatory symbols in vehicle controls, indicators, and tell-tales AND the display color of tell-tales 5.1.1 The lighting general switch control and tell-tale symbols are as shown in 1.The tell-tale display color shall be green. The symbol internal area shall be blank or all solid. 5.1.2 The headlamp remote controls and tell-tale symbols are shown in Figure 2.The tell-tale display color shall be blue. If the headlamp has the auto ON/OFF function, the controls and tell-tales symbols shall be as shown in Figure 3. 5.1.3 Headlamp low beam controls and tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 4.The tell-tale display color shall be green. The inside of the graphic outline of the symbol shall be blank or solid, AND the number of lines representing the beams in the symbol shall be 5 or 4.If its functions are combined with the light general switch, it does not require separate symbol. 5.1.4 The position (side) lamp controls and tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 5.The tell-tale display color shall be green. If its functions are combined with the light general switch, it does not require separate symbol. If the dashboard backlight is significantly changed (illuminated or dimmed) when the main lighting system switch is activated, there is no requirement for the position (side) light tell-tale. 5.1.5 The front fog lamp controls and tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 6. The tell-tale display color shall be green. The inside of the graphic outline of the symbol shall be blank or solid. 5.1.6 The rear fog lamp controls and tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 7. The tell-tale display color shall be yellow. The inside of the graphic outline of the symbol shall be blank or solid. 5.1.7 Headlamp level manual adjustment mechanism control symbol is as shown in Figure 8.The inside of the graphic outline of the symbol shall be blank or solid, AND the number of lines representing the beams in the symbol shall be 5 or 4. 5.1.10 Hazard warning light control symbol is as shown in Figure 11.Hazard warning signal light tell-tale symbol shall be one of the following. 5.1.11 The front windshield wipers control symbols are shown in Figure 12. 5.1.12 The front windshield scrubber control symbol is as shown in Figure 13. 5.1.13 The front windshield wipers and scrubber combination control symbols are as shown in Figure 14.The meaning of this control is that the wiper works synchronously when the scrubber is in operation. 5.1.14 The separately controlled headlamp cleaner control symbol is as shown in Figure 15, AND the number of lines representing the beams in the symbol shall be 5 or 4.It is not required if using the other controls to activate the automatic function. 5.1.15 The separately controlled front windshield defrosting and defogging controls and tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 16.AND the tell-tale display color shall be yellow. 5.1.16 Fan control symbol is as shown in Figure 17, AND inside the symbol shall be solid or blank. 5.1.17 The diesel engine preheat tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 18.The tell-tale display color shall be yellow. 5.1.18 The retarder controls and tell-tales symbols are as shown in Figure 19. AND the tell-tale display color shall be green or white. 5.1.19 The braking system fault (except for ABS fault) tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 20.AND the tell-tale display color shall be red. 5.1.20 The fuel amount indicators and alarm tell-tales symbols are as shown in Figure 21.The tell-tale display color shall be yellow. AND the lower half of the symbol shall be solid or blank as shown in Figure 21. 5.1.21 The battery charge indicator and alarm tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 22.AND the tell-tale display color shall be red. 5.1.22 The engine oil pressure indicator and alarm tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 23.And the tell-tale display color shall be red. 5.1.23 The engine coolant temperature indicator and alarm tell-tale symbols are as shown in Figure 24.The combination of the engine oil pressure alarm tell-tale symbol and the engine coolant temperature alarm tell-tale symbol to represent the engine oil pressure and coolant temperature alarm tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 25.AND the tell-tale display color shall be red. 5.1.24 The horn control symbol is as shown in Figure 26.AND inside of the symbol contour shall be solid or blank. 5.2 Identification of non-mandatory symbols in vehicle controls, indicators, and tell-tales AND the display color of tell-tales 5.2.1 The symbol of the parking brake in the brake state is as shown in Figure 38.The tell-tale display color is red. If using one tell-tale to indicate the state of the two brake systems in 5.1.19 and 5.2.1, it shall use the brake system fault 5.2.3 The rear windshield scrubber control symbol is as shown in Figure 40. 5.2.4 The rear windshield wiper and scrubber combination control symbol is as shown in Figure 41.The meaning of this control is that the wiper works synchronously when the scrubber is in operation. 5.2.5 The vehicle rear cover control symbol shall be one of the followings. 5.2.6 The engine on-board diagnostics or engine fault tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 43.AND the tell-tale display color shall be yellow. 5.2.7 The rear windshield defrosting and defogging controls and tell-tales symbol (if a separate control is used) is as shown in Figure 44.AND the tell-tale display color shall be yellow. 5.2.8 The air conditioning system control symbol shall be one of the following. 5.2.9 The engine start control symbol shall be one of the following. 5.2.10 The airbag fault or front airbag fault tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 47. 5.2.11 The side airbags (including air curtain) fault tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 48.The tell-tale display color shall be red or yellow. 5.2.12 The passenger front side airbag close control and tell-tale symbol is as shown in Figure 49.The tell-tale display color shall be yellow. 5.2.13 The tire pressure abnormality and fault alarm tell-tale symbol shall be one of the following. ......
