Preface

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting is required. This document replaces GB/T 5527-2010 “Determination of refractive index of animal and vegetable fats and oils”. In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows. Changed the scope (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2010 edition);- The reagents have been changed (see 5.2 of the.2010 edition); - Added the automatic refractometer method (second method) (see Chapter 7). - This document is modified to adopt ISO 6320.2017 “Animal and vegetable fats and oils – Determination of the refractive index”. Compared with ISO 6320.2017, this document has the following structural adjustments. Chapter 6 corresponds to Chapters 6 to 12 of ISO 6320.2017, of which 6.1 corresponds to Chapter 6 of ISO 6320.2017, and 6.2 corresponds to Chapter 7 of ISO 6320.2017, 6.3 corresponds to Chapter 8 of ISO 6320.2017, 6.4 corresponds to Chapter 9 of ISO 6320.2017, 6.5 corresponds to Chapter 10 of ISO 6320.2017, 6.6 corresponds to Chapter 11 of ISO 6320.2017, and 6.7 corresponds to Chapter 12 of ISO 6320.2017. The technical differences between this document and ISO 6320.2017 and the reasons for them are as follows. ─ The normative references GB/T 6379.1 and GB/T 6379.2 replaced ISO 5725﹘1 and ISO 5725﹘2 respectively (see Appendix A) ISO 661 (see 6.3 and 7.3) has been replaced by the normative reference GB/T 15687 to adapt to my country's technical conditions; The reagents have been changed, toluene has been deleted, and the use of carcinogenic reagents has been reduced (see 5.2); The automatic refractometer method (second method) (see Chapter 7) has been added to adapt to my country's technical conditions and increase operability. Please note that some of the contents of this document may involve patents. The issuing organization of this document does not assume the responsibility for identifying patents. Determination of refractive index of animal and vegetable oils and fats

1 Scope

This document describes the Abbe refractometer and autorefractometer methods for the determination of the refractive index of animal and vegetable fats and oils. This document is applicable to animal and vegetable oils and fats, and is not applicable to the determination of the refractive index of milk fat and milk fat products.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 refractive index (of a medium) The ratio of the speed of light of a certain wavelength in a vacuum to its speed in the medium. Note 1.In practical applications, the speed of light in air is used instead of the speed of light in vacuum. Unless otherwise specified, the wavelength selected is the wavelength of the sodium D line (589.6 nm). Average wavelength. Note 2 to entry. The refractive index of a given substance varies with the wavelength of the incident light and the temperature. The symbol used is, where t is the temperature in degrees Celsius.

4 Principles

At the specified temperature, the refractive index of the liquid sample is measured by a suitable refractometer.

5 Reagents

Only analytical grade reagents should be used, and distilled water, deionized water or water of equivalent purity should be used in the laboratory. 5.1 Ethyl laurate. Purity suitable for determination of refractive index and refractive index known. 5.2 Hexane or other suitable solvents such as petroleum ether, acetone, etc. are used to clean the refractometer prism.
